Has Juraj Slafkovsky earned his 8 year, $60.8M contract extension with the Habs?

Giving long-term deals to younger players who have yet to truly find themselves is always a risk but has Juraj Slafkovsky shown enough growth in his game to hint that he can take a bigger step next year? Bryan Hayes and Carlo Colaiacovo Juraj Slafkovsky discuss.

  1. As much as I hate to say it, it's a great contract for the Habs… he hasn't even finished his ELC contract yet…

  2. Quality organizations such as my lightning make players earn big contracts. Teams like the habs will overpay anyone who has a little talent & is willing to stay. Nothing is earned.

  3. As a Habs fan I don't like the money they're giving Slafkovsky. There's nothing wrong with the term, but giving 7.6 for someone who's still too young and hasn't looked that good is a bit too much. But hey I hope he proves me wrong and makes me eat my words.

  4. Every Hab fan should be rejoicing. If he plays next season, like he did the second half last season, this is already a fair deal. But, he is still getting better. And he progressed so quickly in several areas of his game.

This Hab fan loves the deal. Exactly what I hoped they would do, slightly less than CC. He would have got paid more next spring had he waited IMO.

  5. HuGo Habs are basically the former Jays GM now running the Braves: AA. Yup, injuries occur; like this yr in Atlanta, but try & sign young talent with nice personalities. Most free agents costs too much & don't want pressure. Except in Toronto as their players are kings for 82-84 exhibition games each year. I hope Habs find a way to trade for Askarov, but Jacob Fowler will rock in 3-4 yrs. Bilingual coaches will finish the job if Martin Saint Louis only wanted to develop.

  6. Habs fan, verry happy! This is not overpaying at all, Slaf will be a beast, and then we will have more room on the cap. I really like where we are going. And we just got Demigod at #5, Jesus! Very good times to be a Habs fan let me tell you!

  7. At least it's not 10+ Million like the Leafs did back in the day. Fair salaries with term that bring them to their primes. Then they might deserve the 10+M, we'll see then. All top players locked in at 8M and under is incredible. To have everyone buy in to this is going to be great for the Habs in the long run if they want to be somewhat competitive. More Star power with less money any day please!
