What Should The Edmonton Oilers Do With Evander Kane?

In today’s #oilers discussion I talk about the Evander Kane situation in Edmonton and what I think might be the best course of action moving forward. Kane, now entering his 4th season with the Oilers, has never played a full 82 games in a season in his career. He turns 33 in August and has been hampered by injuries which makes bouncing back to his career average in goal scoring and production unlikely. What do YOU think the Oilers should do with Evander Kane? Can he bounce back? Should he be placed on LTIR to clear cap space in the regular season? Is there a team out there willing to trade for him? Let me know your thoughts in the comment section below! #nhl #edmontonoilers

  1. I enjoyed his time here, he had some clutch moments, I won't forget that hat trick in the 3rd period against Seattle. But they wanna win and I think his spot has been filled by someone else

  2. I would trade Ceci Kane and McLeod 8 million cap space created. Sign Holloway and Broberg 2.5 million combined to make 5.5 million, sign a good puck moving RD for 4 million then sign a tough hitting Forward for the 4th line 1.5 million. Also to add Foegle had a 26 expected goals (only scored 20) and Kane 31 expected goals only scoring 24 not good finishers this year.

  3. They need kane if healthy they need his toughness and scoring he should have been signed before Perry Jackson said he is a part of this oilers team so far but they need his toughness they don't have to many players to cause havoc weather pertecting players and hits and scoring plus dropping gloves

  4. JFresh posted Kane's player card today on his Twitter/x feed, and it's not pretty. With the addition of Jeff Skinner and Arvidsson, there's no room for him in the top 6. I think it's time to move on. Getting that 5m in cap space would be nice. I've liked Kane, but the injuries have taken their toll and he's a shadow of his former self in many ways.

  5. He should have played game 7 instead of Driasiatle who could barely hold his stick he is a big part of his team and the community he played great in LA kings series he is a also around complete player

  6. But look at Driasiatle his performance in last series he didn't help the oilers he had so many bad giveaways cause being hurt

  7. Jackson said kane is a part of oilers roster at the moment I don't think he wants to leave he is for his life together and doesn't a lot for the town he has actually calmed bad penalty s he needs to be there a lot of sports casters said oilers need a healthy Kane to win Stanley cup

  8. They should have him finally get the surgey he should have gotten at the mid point of last season the day before the season starts, and have him start the year on LTIR. He can then have a miraculous recovery where he's ready for game 1 of the playoffs, like every other team in the league would do.

  9. Why would he want to go anywhere else they need him up front come on the guy got brown his first goal even predicting he would that game I think it's stupid sign Perry who is slow still tough but com on kane has been one of best playoff performer for oilers every year before he was taken out he played a good 1st round against LA kings they don't have anyone except a slow Perry that can crash the boards and cause take always leading to goals

  10. Wow …given the stats his play has fallin off both defensively and offensively…injuries / age are taking thier toll. That being said he sticks up for his teammates and checks consistently.

  11. I do think people really underestimate the hand injury and what it takes to get over it. I get grosses out thinking about it, think about him. He probably still feels it. He has the scar to show.
You had a good story about being a kid. It really speaks to the trauma people face when confronted with these types of major injuries and the long term effects.
-I'd keep him and tell him to play as you advised. He has a good shot, and plays heavy on a team of lighter playing players.
-I could also see using him in a trade to upgrade the D for a top 2.

  12. I feel that itโ€™s better to do whatever they can to remove him. Truthfully in this day and age and what we just picked up and have, there really isnโ€™t much room for an โ€œ enforce โ€œ anymore in the league

  13. Keep him. Trade Ceci if they can, they need to play Lavoie this year & make an evaluation then a decision. Imo McLeod too needs to up his compete level & physical play if he is unwilling to commit & pay the price to win then ship him.

  14. Ofcourse we have to keep him he is a hell of a ishockey player and when he is healty he is 1 of the best and hardest player in the leauge

  15. The spin side of keeping injury prone players is the option of LTIR. What qualities & elements of their game makes a player a valuable addition. With Kane & Nurse its their willingness to play a rugged some times nasty physical game, much needed element still imo. Look how Florida & some other teams try to run over other teams and push them around or intimidate. Edit. Need deterrents or enforcers still imo.

  16. Kane when he is on top of his game; is a hard guy to replace. He checks a lot of boxes you want to see come playoffs.

However his injuries are catching up to him. He's beginning to show his age.

If he can be on LTIR for the remainder of the year it would really help both him and the Oilers this year. I'm hoping he's able to do that.

  17. If he goes on LTIR for the entire regular season then should we maybe consider keeping Kane beyond that? Skinner is signed for just 1 year and he's probably going to post stupid stats and price himself out of an extension with us. Kane could then fill that void as LW2.
