How to rebuild 101

With the Red Wings trading Fabbri to the Ducks, the Flames officially have the most cap space in the league.

Still have a few RFAs to sign, but looking forward to seeing how Conroy weaponises the rest!

It is really hard to get used to seeing Calgary at the bottom of that list.

Gonna be real interesting seeing how Washington gets to be cap complaint, that PLD contract’s such a goddamn anchor

Then buy tickets to the games so ownership will go down this route again in the future

I love this so much. I wonder how much of the permission to rebuild has to do with the recession we are in/entering. If there was ever a time to rebuild/cut prices it’s when the macro landscape is weak af.

It would be interesting to see the number of players under contract in that list as well. I thought I saw that Colorado was still under the cap, but has a list of vacancies to fill that is going to make their lives fun.

Next step: 12 x 8 contract for Joe Pavelski

  7. It’s bizarre that we’re at the very bottom in cap use, yet our roster is almost assuredly too good to finish in the bottom 3.

Are the trifecta of Anaheim, Chicago & San Jose just padding their cap with intentionally overpriced players?

Really hoping we can get a couple picks and prospects for taking bad contracts. Craig absolutely rocks at this

Cap space doesn’t seem to be the premium it’s been in the past though. Wouldn’t expect us to get a first for taking on a $6.3M contract with these numbers.

Bring on the taking of shitty contracts for draft picks baby

I’m expecting Calgary to finish between 22nd and 27th this year. Players like Miromanov, Bahl, Wolf, Sharangovich, Mantha, Pospisil, and Zary are likely to significantly outperform their cap hit. It wouldn’t take much for players like Pelletier, Coronato, Bean, or Cooley to join this group.

Unrelated, but since capfriendly is going offline… has any one found an alternative resource?

Finally committing to something I don’t believe it

That’s because we have no talent on the roster presently

This is the first summer in a while that I’m actually excited for the future of this organization. While we’ve had some good teams in the last 7 or so years, this is the year we’ve made meaningful change for the future and I’m fucking pumped

  16. Calgary didn’t exactly dump dead weight, but the Flames weren’t going anywhere with the crew they had, it was a struggle to just make the playoffs. Now they can almost start fresh with a good team attitude.

  17. HTF is Washington 13 mill over cap? Their team is horrible.
