  1. Kypreos isn’t the first to mention Kampf potentially being on the move. I recall CJ mentioning the same thing on his show earlier this week.

Really seems like he could be on the outs soon. If that’s the case, makes you wonder if the Leafs are going to give Minten a longer look next season

Well paying a player who only works on the 4th line $2.4m isn’t good for a team that needs to use every dollar with purpose. I love Kampf he plays the unrewarded difficult minutes on a team filled with superstars who either aren’t capable or falter while doing it themselves.

But it’s just not a good use of money. Kampf at $800k was genius, Kampf at $2.4m is insanity.

  3. In the Marner deal? Sure whatever it takes đŸ€·

  4. Really hope they can make that contract. You can get a guy making 900k to do the job if a fourth line center. $2.4 mill is insanely overpriced.

  5. Clutterbuck – Dewar – Reaves physically checking 4th line

I think he’s a natural place to look for savings, but the puzzle becomes who your PK centers are. It’s a waste for Matthews to do it. Tavares and Domi can’t do it.

Dewar is bad at faceoffs (though maybe they think he can improve). Jarnkrok hasn’t played center for a while.

That leaves Holmberg, and one of those other two options.

Kampf is a fascinating case study of a guy who is supposedly a very good penalty killer but leads a penalty kill that isn’t very good. What does that say about how good of a penalty killer he really is?

I’m not a trained eye but I don’t see him out there doing much PK wise that I don’t see a lot of other players do all the time.

My PK hot take is that it’s 95% coaching and really, especially for forwards, all you need are guys disciplined enough to go out there and more or less do what they’re told.

He played well two years ago and he was on a good deal. He played not well this last year on a not good deal.

  9. Yeah I agree Kampf is overpaid and we should look for a cheaper option for what he does. But is he the main problem or the main asset we should trade? No he’s not.

  10. Showtime98

I like Kampf but that contract is too long so I get it.

  11. Volderon90

My fear is we trade him and then come playoff time say, “oh our fourth line Center isn’t that great we need to upgrade.” Then trade picks for a 4th line Center

What do you guys think a trade package of Robertson, lily and kampf get us? Just curious to see because Lilly and kampf making like 5.5 together could free up cap for a decent 3rd line winger potentially??

A hockey team ‘possibly’ trading a player…wow, he really went out on a limb with that one…

I think the big picture plan is Kampf’s 2.4 and Liljegren’s 3 going out (assuming Hakkinpaa can play) then having 5.4 to bring in a 3C.

Leafs would still have 6 NHL defencemen and Mermis or whoever wins the spot out of camp as the 7th D.

  15. RoughRunner

They are at the cap without Dewar signed and Cowan on the roster as the 13th forward which I think is likely to start the season. That is with carrying 8 defenceman so Timmins, Kampf or Jarnkrok will probably be moved to make cap space for Dewar. The big hole on the roster is at 3C which hasn’t been addressed so far this offseason. Kampf and Dewar are 4th liners so that leaves hoping Holmberg steps into the role as the only option as it stands.

  16. DontToewsM3Bro

Kampf is the least of the problems on this roster

But Shanahan and Treliving thinks a new coach will change this core lmao. Like Marner, Matthews, Tavares and Rielly are somehow going to become playoff performers

nick kyperios should be selling soap at bath and body works. no sources, & no brains.

  18. bachekooni

Everyone will say all he does is PK while ignoring he’s the only bottom 6 forward who scored last playoffs.

Not saying we need him for his offence but we need to figure out some depth scoring from somewhere and idk if completely shuffling the bottom 6 every 2 years is how you do it.

  19. thiefmire

I’ve liked some of his play, but paying him was such a mistake. I think he looked way better when pierre engvall was his linemate.

Pierre had great skating and zone entries and made kampf look like a better player than he was.

  20. Darkhorse089

Kampf being destroyed by Gudas sealed this guys fate. Not a playoff player, have enough softies that can’t play corners.

  21. power_of_funk

Kampf and his contract would be a lot more tolerable if we didn’t also have Reaves. I dont know wth Brad was thinking giving both of these guys $ and term in the same off season.

Kampf needs to be on a 10 min/night shutdown line. Reaves needs to be on a 5 minute/night checking line. We dont have the players to make a competent shut down line or checking line

  22. GreatSetting34

Problem with kampf was he was here for defense and penalty killing and he was a particularly bad penalty killer. Keefe made no changes and just ran him out there.
