Everybody is doing it!?…Somebody please wake up my GM Drury and let him know!! đ
Hi Hockey Guy…Thought on why Sprong and Johnson are still on the shelf and where they may land?
Like you say, how would you police it? Very plausible deniability when using an intermediary.
Sounds like Nick Saban in 2008 while coaching the Dolphins was asked if he was talking to colleges about HC positions. He said " no, I have not talked any schools" Translation, my agent is talking to them so I can I get out of coaching this shit Dolphin team.
Of course, Chevy re-signs Stanley for 2 years. A guy who is a 7th d-man, at best. And people still think Chevy is a good GM.
Tampering is sort of like speeding… if 100 is posted you're good under 120
The NHL should enforce their no-tampering rule. Or enforce it, difficult as it is to police.
Correction: 31 teams are doing it. The Ducks having signed zero players looks to have played by the rules
Tampa DEFINITELY tampered with Guentzel. If the NHL has this tampering rule, but looks the other way, then they are hypocrits!
The business side of the NHL is the scum under the doormat of all other professional sports… So, yeah, who cares what the intent of rules are meant to be?, when as long as EVERYONE is cheating then, it's all good! ⤠Don't you love the used car salesman level of integrity? Whoo-hoo!
get rid of this stupid tampering rule…..free market
2:05 This league lost any integrity it had, ages ago. Who really cares at this point?
Probably a hot take but I'm completely fine with tampering fading into nothingness, especially if it's even just communication between gms and agents. Tampering is a holdover from when teams basically owned players and as we moved into the existence of free agency, owners still wanting more control over players entering it. It's a lot easier to convince a guy to just resign for you if he literally can't talk to anyone else until he's officially unemployed. Wasn't a big deal for superstars since there was zero doubt they would score a contract, but roster guys who might not get a job elsewhere if they don't know there's interest, huge deal. It allows players to make an informed decision and decide if they're being properly valued by their team and if they could bring more money home for their family at the end of the day.
Why is CapFriendly still up
Crack down. It's legal or it's not.
They should just allow teams to talk to pending UFAs 48 hours early.
Yea, I think they have to do something about tampering. Itâs too obvious teams are getting to players while other teams have their rights.
If everyone's cheating, no one is.
Tampering is hard to enforce as it is and teams will always find loopholes in the rules. If everyone knows this is happening but no one cares, I don't see an issue.
Tampering & LTIR are legal i have no issue with it as long its not abused
If you can be traded once your team is eliminated from the playoffs you should be able to sign with another eliminated team.
I think the most important thing about the tampering is they leave the player focused on the season. I hate that the cup was so close to free trade and the guys had to think about it while celebrating
The tampering has always been there.. easy to see that withing minutes/few hours of UFA, guys sign.. How is that possible if you're not already privy to what is out there. They way to stop it.. don't go after the players.. go after the agents.. because they are the ones doing it.
If the league isn't going to acknowledge CTE, they sure as hell arent going to acknowledge "alleged tampering".
What happens when you trade a draft pick for rights. Clearly thatâs ok?
It would probably be best if teams didnât try to make deals before the finals were over.
That way the players and teams still playing wouldnât have to think about it or worry that they were at a disadvantage.
But as soon as the season is over, who cares?
The Flyers are telling their fans they're rebuilding but they only care about butts in seats. You have to take something apart to rebuild it. Same exact team coming back except Atkinson is swapped out for Michkov.
The way I look at the hockey season is that it is basically over after the Stanley Cup is awarded. So, teams should have that window between the Cup and July 1 to talk with players and agents. Why keep pretending?
The current CBA doesnât make July 1 a hard date for tampering purposes. Per the CBA, âDay after the Entry Draft (but not later than June 25) until June 30, Unrestricted Free Agents may meet and interview with potential new clubs, but may not sign a new SPCs until the opening of RFA/UFA Signing Period.â So players and GMs ARE allowed to meet and discuss, even hammer out a solid deal. They just cant sign anything and file it with the NHL until July 1.
When Shannon mentioned "Gustafsson", I thought he meant Erik. I was surprised when he later mentioned that "Gustafsson" would be a depth forward for the Jets.
Sennecke! đ¤Š
Why Doesnât the nhl do the same thing as the nba and allow a period were agents can talk and sign agreements before the actual free agency .
Of course it doesnât help the gms had a whole week after the end of the playoffs to free agency.
I donât know what youâre talking about, the Devils absolutely werenât tampering by all but signing Pesce two weeks before it was official and trading away Marino to Utah a few days before that. đ
I think they should officially allow for agents to talk to teams before Canada day. Seeing deals fly in at a rapid pace makes for a fun event.
Even though Logan Stanley has his detractors, I'm happy that the Jets are hanging on to him
Pretty sure frank seravalli had ardvisson to edm like a month ago
The UFA tampering issue can be solved easily.
Once free agency is open, thereâs instantly a 72 hour moratorium on contract signing for UFAs. However, players during this period are available for interviews and negotiations and all other forms of contact. We still get an exciting day of $1B+ being signed in a single day on the day that the moratorium is lifted, but also allows the negotiations to actually start, legally.
Now the 72 hours was just an arbitrary number I threw out for explanationâs sake. However early GMs are typically contacting players is how long the moratorium should be.
LTIR needs to go away FOREVER. Tampa and Vegas both cheated with it and the nhl let them get away with it.
…cheating to win, yeah that's never happened before!
if they have rules they should be followed but everyone cheats them it's the NHL that aren't enforcing them so bettman is letting some away with it and others not Bettman is the the issue he needs to go
Rules are made to be followed, unless nodoby cares about them.
2:15 This is a simple answer in my opinion. If tampering with other teamsâ players (or their representatives) is against the rules, then fucking enforce the rule.
If instead the league isnât going to enforce the rule, then abolish the rule.
Fans of this awesome game…. my Canes are falling apart w UFA's…. signing players I never heard of….,I think I'm gonna throw up!! Pesce..nooooo… Skjei ..nooooo…
I really enjoyed how genuinely shocked and surprised Shane Wright was at the draft couple years ago.
I remember a Minnesota Wild employee (Lou Nanne iirc) declaring Zach Parise would sign with the Wild about a week before July 1. Was waiting for the NHL to hand over a future HOFer and captain of 3 Stanley cup winning teams to the Devils as compensation.. but that's not how Gary does things.
The only way they could maybe deter it would be to introduce a cap penalty for it, and I mean like a big one. Something like a 5mil cap penalty the next season. Probably still wouldn't help but maybe would deter a few owners at least from wanting their gm to do it.
How is that circumventing the tampering exactly. How.
Just let GMs talk directly to player agents year round. If you can't police it, then legalize it. Extend the cap into the playoffs to avoid the LTIR shennannigans.
Would it be better for the players to allow tampering? That would give them time to discuss with their family about possible moves and stuff like that.
That's what I immediately think of at least.
Iâm sure there is tampering, teams talk to players agents prior , they have to. If they donât why do you see a player sign right away with a team. Donât they want to field offers from other teams. Case in point I heard several teams were interested in Stamkos and March and boom they both sign right away with Nashville? Fishey
Is the wording in the CBA saying GMs canât DIRECTLY contact a free agent? If so, then if they use an intermediary then they arenât breaking the rules. And I have zero problem with this. All GMs have the same set of rules to abide by.
