How do you see the Mitch Marner situation playing out? | Jay on SC

Mark Masters joins SC with Jay Onrait to share how he thinks the Mitch Marner saga will play out over the next couple of months, whether he believes the free agent additions on defence have fixed the Leafs’ blue line, if he feels the goaltending duo of Joseph Woll and Anthony Stolarz is good enough, and the chances of Easton Cowan cracking Toronto’s roster next season.

  1. If you can't sign Mariner to a league minimum X 5 and no trade available, left him walk next summer to free up some cap space.. Same with JT

  2. The Leafs know exactly what the Marner situation is; it's the Toronto sports media causing all the rumours who don't know anything.

  3. If the Leafs run it back, then I'm going to really enjoy hearing the kid get booed. He's a selfish little worm. Who, the Leafs would do just as well to let him walk into FA, and free up all that money. If you can get Seth Jones for him then do it. But otherwise good riddance

  4. Marner signs extension ,eventually in about ten years he retires as the greatest Leaf of all time .

  5. “That would’ve led the leafs blue line” Yeah I would hope a guy that won the cup had more goals than the guys that won 3 games

  6. If Treliving “fixed the defence” because it was Craig Button’s wish; then this team has more fundamental issues than I thought. No team should be taking Button’s advice on anything.

  7. I don't see leafs doing anything but waiting this year out, so they can resign mitch to the deal he wants. They don't have the guts to make a move or force him in some way to accept a move. They just think it's best to get Tavares off the books and sorta retool around what they have.

  8. I dont get the Marner hate. Subas signed the contract every player tries to get paid on their big contract. Wait out the year then nake a decision. I dont get the Marner hate hes beeb the best player on the team

  9. How is anybody excited for this year, the same core of forwards who continually can’t get it done in the playoffs, we know exactly what’s going to happen..

  10. The Core 4 guarantees a 100+ point season and a playoff spot.
Still a weak defence and goaltending that will look good in the regular season.

  11. So if they get eliminated first round? Run in it again? I mean they are clearly nuts. Good players good players it's hard to get good players. What a joke!

  12. Shanny has got to go! What was he thinking handing over the Leafs to a rookie GM and coach beats the fuck outta me! Dubas stripped the cupboards and people are wondering why Tre didn’t make more moves

  13. If Marner’s next year’s playoff performance improves to a level – where the Leafs Core 4 takes the Leafs to the Eastern Conference Final – then with that promise/hope maybe the Leafs should resign Marner.

If Marner screws up again next spring in the playoffs – resigning Marner for the long term is likely a mistake. 😀

  14. Marner was dangling during the all-star game… I just wish this guy was fearless and tried these plays with confidence in the playoffs. He just locks up, he needs to loosen up, play less tight, carefree…. in the 83rd game!!

  15. If they resign Marner, they’ll lose at least one lifelong Leaf fan based purely on principle. This is incredibly disrespectful to their legions of loyal fans.

  16. Fixed the defence? Added a couple guys on the wrong side of 30, and a guy who may or may not be able to play. Great solution…..ummmm no.

  17. It's so crazy to think they will try and resign Marner. Like when Marner and Tavares see gone we have 20some mil to use to sign knies, mintin, and Cowan and Robertson long term. Like crucial signings.

  18. Granted it's only July, but they've done virtually nothing 😂. The ball is in marners court and he's well within his rights to run out his term.

  19. I wouldn’t trade marner for nothing, it’s a contract year, he will play well, from there we see if he’s worth resigning. I’d give him 9 mil now, nothing more
