THIS IS THE EDMONTON OILERS LAST DANCE…

[Music] okay I’m sorry I’m not going to be annoying anymore no I’m just kidding that’s kind of my stick isn’t it let’s talk today about the Chicago Bulls and the last dance as everybody said it was oh can you really have the Last Dance when you didn’t win any championships who really knows okay sorry I’m going to stop being annoying just kidding that’s my shtick today what I wanted to do is talk about the sentiment that I’ve slowly seen roll out there as to whether or not the Edmonton Oilers are in their last dance era now the reason we’re talking about this is because of a post made by bige head hockey on Twitter they post this graph yesterday not even really a graph it’s just four names here are the Edmonton Oilers that are on expiring contracts LeAndre iidle Evan buard Jeff Skinner and Ryan McLoud is this year the Oilers Last Dance Now if you’re a hockey fan like me and you don’t know anything about basketball then you might be thinking okay what the hell is that last dance why is Michael Jordan in a thumbnail well to say gave you some trouble the Last Dance was one of the very popular television programs that had aired during the initial covid-19 pandemic in the 2020 era you know everybody was talking about Tiger King everybody was talking about that everybody was talking about toilet paper people eating bats and it was the last dance and now I’m hit with a wave of nostalgia because I realize that those days were 4 years ago a we’re getting old dude I was a young 20-year-old full-time YouTuber at that time now I’m still a full-time YouTuber but whatever the Last Dance was noted because it was the last time that the Chicago Bulls could run it back winning multiple championships with multiple Stars this was a team on the cusp of greatness but the question was could they do it one more time we had already made One Last Dance video with Austin Matthews and that was like a thing oh could the Maple Leafs be in their last dance even though they never made it past the first CR like it was kind of crazy when you think about it and for the Oilers I guess you could say that similar sentiments could exist here but then again the Last Dance was super important because it was like you know the last time this team could run it back they were a championship caliber team in the 9s and the Oilers went to the finals once now they went to the third round two times the last time they did so before going to the finals they got swept against Colorado the thing is hockey is hard it is very difficult to win consistently in hockey you don’t see teams do that unless they are from Florida that’s like the only caveat if you’re from Florida then okay you can get yourselves a dynasty you can get yourselves multiple Stanley Cup finals appearances in a row maybe even multiple cups but every other team that is not in Florida that does not have that state tax advantage it’s very difficult to string together consistent success in the playoffs so while I don’t doubt the idea you know the Last Dance you’ve got a competitive group of guys some of their contracts are expiring soon you may not see a good chunk of them return to the team in future years while that sentiment does exist at the same time the magnitude of success certainly is not the same when you compare it to the Chicago Bulls with Michael Jordan like okay maybe Conor McDavid and the magnitude of how good he is compared to everybody else could be seen as the equivalent to Michael Jordan’s statistical overall dominance across the NBA in that time frame but you know it’s kind of just Apples to Apples goats to goats it’s pretty similar and it’s an easy conclusion to make here but nevertheless going back over to the Tweet the question asks is this upcoming season the Oilers Last Dance a lot of these replies are all over the place this season was the last dance off the bar tune says another comment says buard and dry CLE will got huge raises so it will definitely be tougher to have depth next year if dry Sidle resigns this is definitely an important ear for the Oilers this is the beginning of the biggest Dynasty since the80s so no yeah this is the last dance they got lucky last year one of the worst tweets of all time to be honest so you can see that people are very mixed as to whether or not this last dance situation actually does apply to the Edmonton Oilers but a lot of it is going to depend on what happens with these big names how much does Leon draddle resign for he could realistically get more money than Conor McDavid for a season because Conor mcdavid’s gonna have to resign the year after and no one would bat an eye dry could get more money than Matthews and nobody would bat an ey Evan buard could get more than $10 million a year he can get k marar money he can get Roman Yosi money Evan buard is that dude and it’s not necessarily because he’s the best defenseman quote unquote like he’s the best at playing defense but he happens to get so many points offensively he is arguably the best off offensive defenseman the Oilers have had since PA coffee and look there’s a lot to like out of Bard’s game it’s just 10 million bucks while it may be uncomfortable to think about it may be the only appropriate number in this case if the Oilers want any chance of keeping him around so overpayments whatever you could debate whether or not that’s the case but it doesn’t change the fact that that’s likely the number buard dry cdle $25 million in salary cap space taken up there 24 to 25ish does this give you the opportunity to maintain a stable core of depth players around them and continue to succeed is it even valid to call this similar to The Last Dance you know it would be the last Dan if the Oilers made the finals again this upcoming season dry sdle actually goes off in the finals instead of you know disappears and then the Oilers win they do it convincingly they win in five games and then next season comes around and people are wondering oh is Conor McDavid going to stay is Conor McDavid going to leave and then what that’s the real Last Dance back-to-back Stanley Cup finals appearance as a Stanley Cup win and then a potential defining moment for a superstar to choose his own adventure and go over to the Washington Wizards or go over to MLB who really knows um okay Michael Jordan comparisons we got to stop those the Last Dance I don’t think really applies to any situation in hockey in the past 20 years because that combined Aura of desperation and already determined success does not exist here the Oilers didn’t win the cup they didn’t win multiple cups and they could still have themselves an opportunity at keeping some of their guys so the Last Dance might be a little bit dramatic but it makes for a fun and entertaining video so I wanted to go out there and bring this one up here on the internet Conor McDavid let me know your thoughts in the comment section below as to whether or not he’s going to stay or he’s going to go what are your thoughts on Leon dradle thoughts on Evan Bard we haven’t even talked about Skinner and Ryan McLoud but I’m going to assume Jeff Skinner is going to be very good with Edmonton I’m going to assume he adds another element of goal scoring potential to this forward core that is different from the on the rush dangling by everybody kind of style that Conor McDavid has it’s different from the pure sniper one timer option on the far right that Leon dradle has it’s different from the crash the net front presence garbage creas skak Heyman style it’s kind of a mixture of nent Hopkins sniping ability and positional one-timers Jeff Skinner is a very versatile scorer and I think he’ll be fine in Edmonton but his contract is only one year long is this the real Last Dance situation how much does Ryan McLoud end up making after this upcoming season let me know your thoughts in the comment section below about the Oilers Michael Jordan the Chicago Bulls and everything in between and whether or not the Oilers do have themselves a big desperate sort of attitude heading into the 2425 season to win a championship and to get things done and finally bring the Stanley Cup back to Canada so in the comment section below I hope you enjoyed this v99 and bye [Music] [Music]

  1. Im just gonna say, and the basketball fans will hate this

The nhl right now is way more stacked than the nba in the 90s. But i do agree that mcdavid is a bit like jordan in how dominant he is. Which, i guess in a way, this would make crosby the nhl's magic johnson, and ovechkin the nhl's larry bird😅

  2. Only Vancouver nvr won championships bud. McDavid has his coach, his agent and his best friends in edmonton. Get used to it tiny pecker, not to mention they just got way better, and pulled of a deadly trade today.

  3. Sabres fan here. Just picked up McLeod. Seems like a solid 3c kind of guy based off what I watched of him in the playoffs. Edmonton is getting a pure scorer in Savoie, albeit he's small and a tad one-dimensional in his play.

What do you all think about McLeod when he was in Edmonton? You guys have a future scoring 2nd line center in Savoie

  4. Draisaitl's agent literally just said the ball is now in Edmonton's court, meaning Draisaitl wants to resign. And he expects a deal done by August. Nice try tho 😂

  5. First off if the Oilers get Kane off the books which won’t be that hard the Oilers have enough cap to sign Bouchard 10 mill, Draisaitl 13.5 Mill and McDavid 14.5 mill With 11 million left in cap space to sign others.

  6. This Edmonton core had their kick at the can. Now they go to the back of the line. I foresee an awkward possibility in about 5 years when McDavid enters the twilight of his career and has to choose between remaining an Oiler for life or get traded to a legit contender before it's too late. Be a damn shame to see the best in the world not win a cup.

  7. I believe there is 2m coming back from the Neal buyout next year, plus the cap will go up. A buyout of Nurse next year would only provide 1 year of relief so it is likely he gets packaged with a sweetner and salary rention for the rest. But either way, there is a 2 year window here even in the most drastic of situations.

  8. I find it really dumb how people like to judge and debate on the future of the Edmonton Oilers. Like it's not at all possible for them to be proud of what they've become so far and that maybe they can pop out of their bubbles and actually enjoy this very moment in time in history and reflect on what Edmonton Oilers have become. Like maybe live in the moment and enjoy the fact of the identity an experience of the Edmonton Oilers and The thrill Ride they've so far provided for their fan base. If you can rewind back to the back-to-back-to-back years of being judged from being rewarded the first overall pick in the draft lottery and how there was rumors of bribery and favoritism, but really after those three pics you are the three of them don't have anything at all to do with the organization and the direction it has taken " Taylor Hall" "Nail Yakupov" . So I tell myself thank God one of them three picks still remain part of the organization and have actually evolved into what has become a part of the heart and soul group from the very fiber of of what has become the roots of our beloved Edmonton Oilers."Ryan Nugent Hopkins" and from there forward as you know how the team has evolved into what it has become and built its Legacy primarily based upon the draft having drafted nurse, Dristial, Skinner, Bouchard, Holloway, and for as many of those players I just named there was the Shremps the Puliarvis and the Yamamoto's all becoming wasteful draft pics and that is just the normal Ebbs and flows of building what we have evolved into currently. As I recall and as should most Oilers fans the shifting point of a major time of Hope much needed renewed Joy was the moment of realization of winning the draft lottery and having the chance to pick Connor McDavid first overall to me that became a where were we then moment and I also believe this event was the catalyst to overcome all the criticism and doubt in the Oilers management and have all the naysayers actually shut their mouths because of mcdavid's uncanny talent and pure excitement and thrill in such a joyful talent to watch whether you were an Oilers fan or not and having witnessed the history slowly being carved out thru a superstars Legacy. Has been so far magical to say the least. From the winning culture he's created and the offensive explosion he created throughout the entire League rocketing the NHL back into a highly skilled and much entertaining era, and to have the attraction of many talented hockey players that want to actually come to the great Northern city of Edmonton Alberta, which for a lot of years was not the most desired place to live or play out there hockey careers , to having players like Henrique take major discounts and make sacrifices so they can become a part of a seemingly Destin championship team. So if by saying or titling this video in creating the illusion or thought of this may be the last dance for the Edmonton Oilers seems to me is the actions of a troll. And being a true heart and soul die hard loyal Oilers fan my advice is enjoy the now enjoy the experience and enjoy the ride and no matter what we evolve into from this point forward take a moment to enjoy and become witness to know where we came from to now being proud to say entering the 2024-25 Edmonton Oilers are the Stanley Cup favorites expected not only to most likely become the next President's award winning team and be the elite and getting the privilege to watch not only a powerhouse and offensively gifted high speed top caliber teams to have ever played in the NHL. All I got to say is this thank God that I'm an Edmonton Oilers fan and anticipation of next season just may end up killing me over summer but as a fan base we are 110% ready for a magical thrill Ride and one that we all hope and pray will bring Lord Stanley Cup back to Canadian soil.. that would be such a grateful experience and we'll add to the legacy of the Edmonton Oilers. I'll end with this thank you stars for aligning the way you have and gifting us with what we have become hear in oil country such a proud fanbase with high hopes there's nothing as magical as a cup run that brings us all together in unison and brings the joyful experience of winning all the marbles end the Stanley Cup………………..🤞♥️ OILERS 4 EVER…
