Josh Jacobs of @DealinTheCards is pairing with Brenden Schaeffer for a new Cardinals podcast we’re calling Philosophical Differences!

In Episode 1, we discuss what’s possible for the Cardinals in 2024 based on recent play and their place in a funky National League standings, plus the guys get into trade concepts and come up with a doozy near the end of the show that would involve bringing two former Cardinals back into the fold.

  1. (My Wish List)*** If the Cards would acquire
    1) Luis Roberts from Whitesox (right handed power) if it would take Walker, plus a (Graceffo, Sem Robberse)
    2) Max Scherzer (just makes sense that before he retires, he'd come to STL)
I think we could challenge for WS….

  2. The Dodgers will do what it takes to strengthen their lineup or rotation. The Cardinals have a chance to do something because the National League is awful, otherwise they would be fighting five teams for one spot. So after the last few years of bad will from/to the front office, you would think they would go over the top to make improvements and see what happens. They need a 1/2 to pair with Gray, a high leverage arm to keep our back end three fresh. And a right hand bat to fortify the lineup, and I don't care what position they play as long as it's not catcher or shortstop, no one else has a right to complain. But despite the fact that Dewitt is worth more money than the Dodgers owner, he and Mo will play the low hanging fruit game.

  3. I agree, the NL is pretty darn weak. We probably have to take 3 of 4 against the cubbies. August is going to be pretty tough. Probably need a significant add on before the trade dead line because the real contenders will surely add on what they need. I still think it will be easier to take the central than it will be to get a wild card although I wouldn’t bet either way. The 3 or 4 games that we should have won but gave away may come back to haunt us.

  4. Loved the inaugural episode! 2 of my faves teaming up again! Can't wait to see more. Philosophical Differences didn't make sense to me at first because you two rarely seem to disagree, so I thought it was gonna be about disagreeing with Mo. Ah well. Swing and a miss, strike one.
Ya know, there at the end when Brenden asked Josh about bringing back a guy I immediately jumped to Tommy. I'd love to see him back.

  5. This sketchy rotation could turn into something special next year if someone like Burns or Smith can fall to the 7th pick with Hence getting closer to MLB ready and looking good plus Gray at the top and possibly a shiny new addition at the trade deadline. That's a hell of a lot of "ifs" but it's fun to imagine!

  6. Anyone know the cards won't make the moves needed n want them to just sign Bauer for the league minimum or is everyone still hung up on fakse accusations?? Don't @ me bc "hes a bad teammate, in Cleveland he through the ball ovrr the fence" bs. That was all before he signed $40M with LAD n nobody scrutinized LAD for that and Betts wants him back

  7. Braves are white knuckling their way through this season, it's a serious credit to them with how good they are doing with how injured they've been this year. Flaherty absolutely will get traded but 0 chance of Cards he mentioned he felt burned they didn't even offer to keep him and Detroit showed serious faith/interest in him, so way to soon for that. I would like to see White Sox or Angels trade, Scherzer scares me, but he just needs to stay healthy for about 3 months.

  8. Great show. PLEASE NO on Pham. On the “does he have an edge to his game or is he just an asshole?” spectrum, he breaks the scale for asshole points. Does not seem like a good dude.

  9. Been wondering when this crossover would happen. Glad to see it did and look forward to more

  10. If we can't get Sherzer then we need Bassit. If you don't believe me, look him up.
The All Star game is always a bit tricky. There are always guys who have a great first half and don't make it. There are always guys who have a great first half, but who don't end up looking like All Stars by season's end. Of course, no season is complete without several all stars who are there simply based on their reputations.

I already had the thought of bringing Pham and Brebbia back. I didn't want to see either of those guys go and was baffled that Mo didn't see the value in them. They would definitely be "incremental upgrades" and pretty damn good ones.
*Pham has too much personality and is probably too honest, and too much his own man for Mo to bring him back. It pretty much felt like those were the reasons he wasn't kept around the first time.

  11. Great podcast. It really seems like you have a better connection/relationship with Josh compared to Charlie. Really just seems to flow better with Josh. Seems like you guys are a natural fit. Sometimes Charlie Marlow comes across a little high and mighty.

  12. Everything hinges on Goldanado actually performing up to expectations and Gorman. Fricking Gorman…… sigh. Also need Carpenter and Carlson to thrive down the stretch.

  13. “It doesn’t feel good when you don’t blow up teams. Ever.” Indeed. This has been the season long elephant in the room.
