  1. He should have accepted it. Giguerre is right. The game and the league is bigger than any one player and as an example to kids and younger competitors out there, it would have been the right thing to do.

Something lost on the new generation!

  2. Giving this guy the spotlight to comment once, ok, but I find myself not caring at all anymore. It was such a nothing of a controversy and a problem that lasted like a moment on the night of the cup. McDavid is such a big positive influence on hockey, I hope he stops high-sticking guys (that was straight up something new from him in the playoffs), but he has been like a posterboy for sportsmanship hasn't he? I think the only criticism is that he didn't come out and say exactly what he was doing, because I think in terms of being an example there might be other lessons to be learned there

  3. You said it, the situation was awkward, if he were held on ice or the whole thing happened right away I'm sure he would have accepted, but maybe the responsibilities of the captain after the game are different than a goalie , idk. It could have been a selfless thing in his mind to support his team and not go collecting awards in their failure, like imagine going BACK to the room after that and having to talk to them about how he cares more about winning than awards, well he showed them. Besides, what is Gary trying to do, just get a really good pic of Mcdavid crying about losing the cup as he's smiling for the photo? Twisted tbh

  4. The game was about the Stanley Cup – the game is bigger than the player. SO maybe McDavid was respecting the Panthers who won the cup and didn't take a ME moment. Maybe if someone from the losing team wins the Conn Smythe, don't present it on the ice?

  5. The NHL should have just awarded it outside the oilers locker room. Problem solved. But no that idiot bettman needs to be front and centre with his shakey bobble head.

  6. The difference between the two is one is a goalie and the other is the captain of his team, mcdavid had to be there for everyone
