Othmann and Perreault excelling at camp! Rangers release schedule and sign two free agents!
brand athman and Gabe perau look great at reinder development Camp the rinders reveal their schedule for the upcoming season and they sign two more free agents you’re locked on the New York Rangers your daily podcast on the New York Rangers part of the locked on podcast Network your team every day welcome back blue shirts fans to episode number 1105 of the locked on New York Rangers podcast I’m your host John chick just want to thank you guys as always for making locked on New York Rangers your first listen every day we are free and available on all platforms including YouTube and we are of course part of the locked on podcast Network your team every day so we got a lot to do today we’re taking a at least a brief break from all the Jacob trouba drama I don’t think any uh new angles or any new reports or any new information has become available in the last 24 hours anyway so let’s do something a little bit later a little bit more fun and let’s go ahead and talk about Ranger development Camp which started on Tuesday continued uh today Wednesday and a couple of uh young Ranger players performing well there we’ll we’ll start with that today we’ll also get to the rinders revealing the 2024 2025 schedule walk through the schedule together I’ll kind of reveal the games that I’m circling on my calendar I already heard back from a couple of you guys uh on Twitter as far as um you know which which games you’re really looking forward to so we’ll do that and also gonna talk about a couple of free agent signings small free agent signings by the New York Rangers but let’s go ahead and start with development Camp so it’s everybody you would expect to be there all the players that the Rangers drafted this year all the players that they’ve drafted in recent years and uh even going uh as far back as guys like bran athman Adam Sakura uh gab Bros is a recent draft pick but he’s there as well and of course uh Emory who they drafted in the first round this year pretty much like I said everybody you would expect apparently gab BR and BR othman already BFFs they’ they’ve really HED off at this Camp they’ve been talking with each other quite a bit on the first day it sounds like Amman assisted perau for a goal off the rush perau was able to finish with that nasty wrist shot of his and it sounds like in day two they continued to create some scoring opportunities may have even gotten robbed once or twice uh during you know various drills and and whatnot uh there was an article from Vince Mar cagliano he’s obviously covering all of the development camp and I wanted to start by talking a little bit about Brent ofman this is aan talking about perau he’s a special talent him and I are good buddies and hopefully we’ll be good buddies in the future hopefully we can play together he’s a good player and you can just see when you skate with him he tries to find me all the time I think with his playmaking ability and with my shot and kind of finding open space I think that’ be a pretty good Duo and I did see a funny rinder tweet the other day I forget who sent it um but somebody said I don’t want to get ahead of myself here but Offman and pro together on the on the first line next season that’s not going to be happening we already know that uh Gabe Pro is going to be going back to college uh to BC for his sophomore season more on that in a little bit but BR ofman I think he can Will and should be given every opportunity to make this Ranger team out of training camp much in the same way that will uh pulled it off last season so uh there was also another interesting quote from bran ofman I don’t have the exact quote in front of me but basically uh he was talking you know about his situation everything and uh mentioned that he’s been doubted by a lot of people and I tweeted this out earlier today my question is who is doubting BR othman I I think all of us Ranger fans are pretty excited about him now you dig a little bit deeper I mean I I know that there’s always some doubters for every pro athlete and you know there are people that have pointed out the fact that he had kind of an ugly plus minus with Hartford last season and uh maybe isn’t all the way there in terms of the defensive aspects of his game and maybe that’s why uh he never you know got an extended look with the Rangers last year he was up for three games and I think that was a great idea to do that uh get him some NHL experience under his belt but people are saying you know there’s there’s hypothetic there’s hypothetical trade scenarios where Offman could be involved but I don’t think the Rangers would do that in reality uh there’s also people you know pointing out that oh maybe um you know his his defensive game isn’t there all the bit and I feel like any player even if it’s just fan created if they’re mentioned in a trade hypothetical that’s gonna like bother them and maybe light a fire under them and look if he thinks people are doubting him that’s fine because that can light a fire under him and it sounds like he’s going to use that as motivation but I for one I’m still very high on brand off and I’m pulling for him especially after the lack of activity at the start of free agency by the Rangers I’m pulling for him uh to make the team out of training camp it’s got to makees sense and he’s got to show well for himself in the training camp and in preseason but I I hope that’s exactly what happens and I hope he’s out there on opening night apparently uh Chris jury asked guys like Branan hman and Brett barard and a couple of the older guys at Camp to go there and basically be leaders uh for the younger players and ofman mentioned that as well ofman also talked about uh his defense and more spefic specifically uh how you know it’s an improved part of his game so what he had to say about that my most important thing was my details in the dzone I thought that I really took it to another level I think that if you talk to anyone down there from game one to the last game of the season they kept telling me that they saw big strides from my development every time you hear that it’s always a compliment and it’s always confidence building too you know you’re not able to score and put up point or excuse me you know you’re able to score and put up points but if you can’t do the other stuff then you may not cut it and he’s absolutely right you know it sounds like he’s got the right mindset and he was a you know good offensive player for the wolf pack he was kind of streaky for the pack last season he’d get hot for a few games and kind of go quiet for a little while but overall you know I think a very encouraging season for Brandon hman with the wolf pack and he also mentioned that he’s starting to get more used to playing right wi uh his natural position is left wi but obviously when you look at the ranger depth chart they need a little bit more help on rightwing and they do left wing and that’s especially true if they end up trading capoo which we don’t know if that’s going to happen or not but if it does obviously that opens up another spot there on the depth chart uh I mentioned perau a second ago he mentioned that he will be back for his sophomore season at Boston College and said that everything is on the table after that so the way I read that the earliest possible time that we’ll see Gabe perau is not this upcoming season but maybe the one after that and I think there’s a good chance that that could happen at that point Pro just a tremendously talented player uh as a freshman last year for BC he was third in all of college hockey as a freshman in points per game uh only his teammate Will Smith and also number one overall pick mcklin celebrini had more points per game than perau did last season in 36 games at BC Pro had 19 goals 41 assists uh that was the second most in all of college hockey only to Smith also 60 points and like I said 1.67 points per game and uh perau not the biggest guy that might be part of the reason why he fell all the way to the Rangers in last year’s draft 5 foot1 165 pounds but size be damned they had to pick him uh he fell way too far and the talent is just off the charts he’s only 19 you got to figure he’ll uh continue to you know fill out as he goes forward uh he said that his goal is to get bigger keep getting keep gaining weight and uh also work on my skating um so yeah gate Pro and brand hman like I said kind of hitting it off at practice and uh we’re not there yet but at one point in the future you know that could be you know the top line for the Rangers the second line for the Rangers whatever it might be but both players have top six uh written all over them at some point down the road here uh also defenseman EJ Emory he was the ranger first round pick this year at number 30 apparently he was a defensive standout in the first day of practice he was also for what it’s worth for people that just like guys that put in the extra effort he was the last player on the ice after the first practice began there was uh some video post on Twitter looked like at that point I mean he’s the only guy out there there’s only so much you can do but um he was working on a shot at that point so that’s good to see as well uh Brett barard personal favorite of mine sounds like uh he’s going to beting an apartment with Matty baners the two of them are have to train and uh push each other that’s the plan according to barard uh barard I think we see him this season I really do I I feel like he’s coming along nicely he led the wolf packing goals last season with 25 also had 23 I don’t know how long Brett barard is gonna be a member of the Rangers this season I’d give him an outside shot to maybe making the opening night roster I think ofman probably has a better chance but you know barard not the biggest guy but he plays a lot bigger than his frame by all accounts you know just you know Relentless when it comes to fighting for the puck I believe he’s only 5 foot 11 and I want to say he’s somewhere in the 180 pound range but uh one of those guys that has showed well for himself at every single level of hockey and I do wonder if maybe he’ll get the uh the treatment that athman got last year and the treatment that got the year before that where the Rangers call them up in the middle of the Season they’re out there for maybe three or four games then they’re sent back down to the AHL to continue to work on their craft but it’s a good idea you know to uh get guys acclimate get them at least some Taste of NHL action a year before maybe they’re ready for the whole grind of the 82 two game regular season plus however many playoff Seasons but maybe not you know maybe they see Brett barard as somebody that can actually make the team on opening night and actually be a contributor all the way through the season I feel like that’s maybe getting a little bit ahead of ourselves but we’ve been surprised before you know the Rangers if they feel like somebody shows well for themselves and they feel like there’s a spot in the roster they don’t hesitate you know they they’ll give you your chance and Brett bird could be that guy this season uh we will see one of the lighter moments uh from the uh development Camp is that apparently Adam Sakura former second round pick by the r said his luggage got lost so he had to borrow capoo skates you know at least for the first day I I don’t know what happened in the second day but yeah a lot going on at development Camp you know we’ll continue to check in on this and uh I’ll have some final thoughts when it concludes um for the time being that’s just kind of the cliff notes and like I said we’ll dive into development camp in Greater detail we might even do a whole episode on it uh once said Camp concludes but for now we’re g to keep everything rolling in just a second I want to shift our attention to something that’s always a lot of fun during uh the off season and that is when the Rangers reveal their schedule for The Following season they have indeed done that and we’ll go through the schedule together in just a second all right we just want to take ahe keep everything rolling here on locked on New York Rangers big shout out to the every dayers can’t thank you guys enough for always tuning in always supporting the show going forward we’re going to continue to cover the trouba Saga taking a brief break from it today and letting us all kind of uh collect ourselves and breathe a little bit uh just unreal how that whole situation has unfolded uh we’ll also have some more on the ranger draft class uh hoping to talk to some of the other locked on hosts about some of the newest players on the New York Rangers uh namely Riley Smith and Sam Carrick gonna look to maybe line up some guests for you guys as well but for right now let’s go ahead and shift our attention to the Rangers schedule I’m going to go ahead and try to share my screen here and gonna have to bear with me this always takes me a second but I will figure it out uh let’s see and anybody who’s listening on audio don’t worry I’ve got you covered I’ll talk to you through the schedule but there we go there is the uh the Rangers schedule for this upcoming season or that’s uh going to be October at least but uh anybody watching on YouTube and again audio I’ll talk you through it you can see that something that really stands out here at least for me is that the Rangers at at the start of the Season here they have a fairly easy schedule I mean no disrespect to any of the teams on the screen there but when you look at it uh there’s nothing that really jumps off the page Rangers played nine games in October there are no back-to-backs uh there are often two days between games two off days between games and you know the whole thing here I might as well just go through the whole month uh at Penguins home Utah home wings at Wings at Leafs at Canadians home Panthers home ducks and at caps and something that stands out to me there is that of those nine games only seven of them or rather uh only two of them are against teams that made the playoffs this past season and one of them is the caps and the Caps had more losses than they did wins 40 wins and 42 losses so that’s a great opportunity for the reers to stack some points that’s exactly what they did last year basically hit the ground running in October they had that awesome road trip I think the whole road trip was actually in Canada or the vast majority of it was but the bottom line they went 5-0 on that road trip uh scored a couple of overtime winners as well and Bing some points early in the season and it obviously you know led to the Rangers ultimately winning the president’s trophy so there’s a good chance to do that again this season you never know I mean some of these teams might be improved I think the Red Wings are certainly a team that’s moving in the right direction um the Canadians ever so slightly maybe moving in the right direction um yeah and obvious obviously you’ve got a rematch against the Panthers and that’s going to be one of the games that I circle on the calendar but we’ll get to that in a second uh to continue kind of walking through the schedule here you’ve got uh November you know I I’ll just kind of show it on screen for everybody couple of division matchups toward the end of the month here there’s also uh the first road trip the first late night road trip between uh let’s see this would be November Sunday 17th and November Saturday 23rd the Rangers will play Four Road games at Seattle at Vancouver at Calgary and at Ed two of those games start at 9:00 two of them start at 10:00 and those are always a grind you know those road trips where they’re out on the west coast I mean I’ve said this before some people might like the late starts some people might have work schedules that work better with the late starts or maybe you live in a different part of the world and you know that that tends to work better for you but I think for most of us uh we do prefer those 7 PM start times but we’ll deal with it we’ll grind through it and uh hopefully the Rangers grind through it as well and uh get themselves some wins during that road trip we go to December month kicks off with a couple of uh division matchups you know home against the Devils home against the Penguins um a little bit denser this month although there is the uh the holiday break here uh from December 24th through December 27th but Rangers play some quality teams here and some rival teams as well the last four games of this month are home canes at Devils at lightning and at Panthers uh we move to January here you start off with you know matchups against the Bruins and the capitals and uh you know the devils are in there couple of good Western Conference teams they’re going to be playing on the road against the Knight and the Avalanche they’ll also have a home game against the Avalanche a little bit later that month so lot going on in January we’ll go ahead and move to February now anybody watching on YouTube You’re Going to see a massive uh you know Gap in the uh schedule here for the Rangers and that’s because this is when the four nations classic is going to be happening the Rangers will not play a game from Sunday February 9th through uh Friday February 21st so that’s 133 straight days off for the Rangers that’s when the four nations classic is going to be happening we we already know that mik zabad will be playing for team Sweden Adam Fox will be playing for Team USA and I’m definitely looking forward to seeing that I know it disrupts the uh the flow of the NHL schedule and everything but I think it could be a lot of fun uh Sweden Finland the United States and Canada battling in around Robin the best two teams then play each other in a onegame championship and obviously fingers crossed that nobody gets hurt especially a member of the New York Rangers but I am for one uh definitely looking forward to that tournament I think it’s going to be a lot of fun then we move to March and uh this is a really dense month for the reers they have between March 2nd and March 29th they have let’s see that would be 12 15 games 15 games in the span of 28 days so that’s kind of crazy but um obviously we’ll just kind of roll with the punches there um but yeah definitely a packed month and one where the Rangers are are going to be tested there’s a couple of back-to-backs three different back-to-backs four different back-to-backs in the month of March so that’s going to be a grind in a battle and Rangers are going to have to just fight their way through it and then finally we conclude with April here and opposite of the start of the Season uh this is when this might be one of the hardest months of the schedule uh for the New York Rangers when it comes to just the quality of the opponent you’ve got um I mean there’s not that many games so I’ll just run through them there’s uh eight games here so home wild at Devils home lightning home Flyers at Islanders at canes at pan and home lightning so you’re playing some good teams there a lot of teams that have been in the playoffs the last couple of years obviously the defending Cup champion Panthers the lightning which won a couple of Stanley Cups not too long ago so yeah I mean the canes are there you have your hands full if you’re the New York Rangers and hopefully they’re in a situation where you know they they’ve banked a bunch of points and they’ve long since clinched their playoff spot but I do think this is good it’ll test the Rangers heading into the postseason and um look last year I mean we we know that the Rangers uh didn’t clinch I mean they clinched playoffs but they hadn’t clinched their division or the presidence trophy or anything along those lines until the final game of the regular season as far as you know games that I’m circling certainly opening night you know it’s opening night and you’re also at home uh or rather on the road against the Penguins I would also say the first game against the Panthers at home on Thursday October 24th I’m circling that because obviously it’s a rematch of the Eastern Conference Final would the Rangers have beaten the Oilers if they got past the Panthers I have no idea could have gone either way but obviously the Panthers were the team that you know took away the dream basically from the Rangers and and they won fair and square mostly fair and square I know some people were upset about them diving and doing this and that but bottom line the Panthers were the better team and they got the job done but that doesn’t mean that I can’t look forward to a rematch between those two teams I think also uh at the flames on Thursday uh November 21st temperature has really gone up between those two teams in recent seasons and they tend to play some really kind of crazy exitting games against each other so I’m looking forward to that uh We’ve also got on November 27th the first matchup of the Season against the Carolina Hurricanes we know how nasty it can get between these two teams Rangers have obviously knocked them out of the playoffs in two of the last three seasons so definitely looking forward to that one KES might be a different looking team by then but either way I’m still looking forward to it I think also the day after Thanksgiving at 1M at the Flyers it’s a rivalry game uh it’s Unique to have an afternoon game during the week you know afternoon games are usually reserved for the weekend uh I’m off work that day I’m sure some of you are as well and we’ll have the Thanksgiving hangover can watch a you know a fun rivalry game between the Rangers and the Flyers uh going to cheat a little bit here two for one home against the canes and at the Devils on Sunday December 22nd and Monday December 23rd they’re both afternoon games it’s right before the holiday break uh rainers will have four straight days off as part of the holiday break and that’s a great way to go into to the break with some momentum and some good vibes if you can uh get the job done against two division Rivals so I think those could both be a lot of fun uh at Utah on Thursday January 16th it’s going to be the first time the Rangers play on the road against Utah uh it’s a new team you know obviously they carry on the lineage of the Arizona Coyotes but for all intents and purposes it’s a new team it’ll be the first time that the Rangers play in that Arena uh two more here we’ve got home against the Oilers on Sunday March 16th I mean you’re going up against Chris noblock you’re going up against McDavid and Dr Idol and the team that was in the Stanley Cup Final this past year so I think that could be fun as well and then finally talked about this game a little bit already but the uh the season finale against Tampa on Thursday April 17th that game that rivalry is picked up in recent years uh the temperature Rose between those two teams during and after their meeting in the Eastern Conference Final and I’m curious to see how much that game’s going to mean because you know the Rangers still had things to clinch in the last day of the regular season uh for this SE this uh this year that just concluded so we’ll see what happens there but either way definitely looking forward to that matchup and uh you guys let me know you know a couple of you responded to me on Twitter what matchups uh interest you the most which games are you planning on going to very curious to hear about that I still have to figure out you know what games we might go to this upcoming season but we’re keep everything rolling just a second I do want to shift our attention to a couple of uh unrestricted free agents that the Rangers signed in the last couple of days and we will do that in just a second all right couple of Ufa signings for the New York race Rangers and I want to preface this whole thing by saying that these are not the splash splashiest moves excuse me that the Rangers have ever made they sign defenseman Casey Fitzgerald to a two-year deal they also sign Bo Gru a forward Center to a one-year deal now keep in mind there’s nothing wrong with signing players like this every team does it you need guys to kind of uh essentially just be warm bodies for your AHL team and I think Fitzgerald might have a chance of cracking the opening night roster I’d probably bet against it I I don’t think guw has any chance um but you do need players like this it’s just organizational depth and if nothing else these are two guys that do have some NHL experience but with all that said and I understand look I understand people wanting Chris jury to do more in free agency I’m right there with you don’t think that was a good day for him and the Rangers at all that’s even before you factor in the whole mess of Jacob trouba um but there’s nothing wrong with signing players like this they shouldn’t be the biggest moves of your offseason but you do need organizational depth and guys that aren’t making a whole lot of money so we’ll start with defenseman Casey Fitzgerald we’re going to talk about both these guys and uh just kind of talk about you know what they bring to the table so again Fitzgerald gets a two-year deal worth the league minimum of 775k per season uh Fitzgerald for some of his background he was taken by the Buffalo Sabers in the third round of the 2016 NHL draft number 86 overall he’s now 27 years old 5 foot1 and 185 pounds to date he has played in a total of 63 career NHL games between the sabes and the Panthers and and to really break it down 36 games with buffalo in 2021 2022 23 games with buffalo in 2022 2023 he was then waved by the Sabers claimed by the Panthers off of waivers and then he played in four games with the Panthers in 2022 2023 also played in two staling Cup playoff games that year as well uh then he spent all of this past season 2023 2024 with the Charlotte Checkers of the AHL which is an affiliate of the Florida Panthers and unfortunately for Fitzgerald I think that means that he doesn’t get his name on the Stanley Cup because he didn’t play any games with the Panthers at the NHL level this past season but in those 63 total NHL games no goals nine assists he’s a minus 21 he has average 1445 of ice time per night 47 block shots 121 hits which is a decent amount of hitting when you consider the relative lack of ice time that he’s gotten uh 18 takeaways and 18 giveaways and as far as uh his role with the Rangers as of now I feel like uh he’s at least in the mix to be the Rangers seventh defenseman we know that Eric Gerson signed with Detroit for two years so he’s gone he’s out of the picture I think that pretty much pretty obviously at least as of right now depending on any other moves that the Rangers make that bumps Zack Jones into the role of six defenseman but they need a seven defenseman somebody that can be the healthy scratch and sub into the lineup whenever you know somebody has an injury or whatever it might be there’s a lot of guys that could be in the running for that Matthew Robertson is an RFA you probably wouldn’t want Robertson playing the seventh defenseman role you would probably want him to play in the AHL he’s not going to be in your NHL lineup on most nights so it probably wouldn’t be him uh the Rangers do have some other veteran defensemen that are still under contract Brandon scandin and Conor Mackey uh each of them played one game with the Rangers this past season Mackey played in the Ottawa game on January 27th got into a fight in that game and that’s when the Rangers were playing terribly and he got into a fight and the Rangers just came roaring back in that game won the game going into the break and uh you know obviously really hit the ground running in February where they went 11 and one so uh Mackie became something of a cult hero for reinder fans but he’s in the running as I mentioned scan a minute ago you got to figure he’s in the running uh Ben Harper still under contract for the New York Rangers so possibly he’s in the mix there as well to be the seventh defenseman uh Chad ruid is still on signed so he could be an option as well and I reached out to uh to just learn a little bit more about Fitzgerald I reached out to Joe from locked on Sabers uh I basically just asked for a general Scouting Report uh as well as if he thinks that Fitzgerald can be and every night NHL defenseman or if he sees him more as organizational depth and this is what Joe had to say uh in response to my question again just message him on Twitter didn’t think we needed to do a full-fledged crossover because this is kind of a small signing but this is what Joe had to say you don’t want to end up with Fitzgerald being penced into your opening night lineup much more organizational depth if he has to play 10 to 20 games for you he’ll do fine but you’d like him to play more AHL games than NHL plays very hard for his size small but will throw his body around will fight block shots very solid penalty killer he’s basically a stay-at-home 6’4 defenseman in a 511 body he lacks the puck skills and skating ability that most sub six feet defensemen need to be a regular NHL and yeah I I think I’m kind of on the same page with Joe there um you know to me he’s somebody that kind of profiles as maybe a seventh defenseman I think he should at least be given the chance to win that role um but you know we’ll see how it goes in training camp who ultimately does win that role for the New York reers and he touched on Joe touched on uh Gerald’s fighting he will fight he actually got into a fight with bran othman in the AHL this past season while playing for the Charlotte Checkers uh they pretty much both fell down as soon as the fight started but it was a fight and including the preseason last year with the Panthers uh Fitzgerald got into seven fights in 2023 2024 so this dude will drop the gloves and seemingly will stand up team for teammates as well and with that let’s go ahead and shift our attention to the other signing here uh bo Gru 24y old Center he is six foot2 198 pounds he signs a one-year deal also at the league minimum of 775k uh he’s exclusively listed as a center drafted in the second round in 2018 by the ducks went number 54 overall 65 NHL games they were all with the Ducks uh 18 games in 2021 2022 he had two games in 2022 2023 and actually played in more than half last year with the Ducks 45 games in 2023 2024 and in those 65 games for his career not a lot of offense one goal four assists he’s also a minus 9 has average 1159 of ice time per night 36 block shots 120 hits again a good amount of hitting for somebody with limited ice time uh 16 takeaways and 16 giveaways not much offense that that’s what really stands out there and obviously he’s a forward and maybe he’s a little bit of a defensive forward but he’s still want a little bit more than I think one goal and four assists in uh in 65 games um it’s worth pointing out though in the AHL for whatever this is worth to everybody 103 AHL games from 2021 2022 to current day in that time he does have 29 goals and 23 assists for a total of 61 points it’s not an enormous amount but it’s at least something gotta figure he gets a lot more ice time and probably a better spot in the lineup when is’s he when he’s in the AHL so that scoring has not translated to the NHL I guess the Rangers are T just taking a flyer here on somebody that is still young and was a relatively high draft pick as far as his role with the Rangers whereas Fitzgerald I think has at least a chance of making the opening night roster as probably the seventh defenseman I don’t think that uh that guw has really much of a chance at all I think he’s just organizational depth never hurts to have an extra Center you know in the pipeline that has at least some NHL experience um but you know you look at the competition for the forwards that are going to be on the open night roster for the Rangers uh I did a count and I’ve got at least 11 forwards that to me seem like virtual locks to make the roster the most forwards at the Rangers are going to carry you got to figure is 14 and I get the feeling that somebody like Brew he’s going to be behind guys like rmy bradinsky edstrom you could throw Jimmy vzy in there if you don’t consider him a lock to be on the open night roster um you know Offman or barard one of them could make the team out of Camp you never know um even veterans like Riley Nash Jake lision you know do they go to them before they go to a grew uh not sure you know Alex belal is still there Never Say Never but this guy feels like an enormous long shot uh to make the opening night Ross turn uh I talked to Joe from locked on Sabres a little bit earlier today I’m also in touch with JD from locked on Ducks I was playing on uh you know inviting him on to the show and talking a little bit about Sam Carrick and we’re eventually going to do that but um you know Carrick of course signed with the Rangers spent five and a half Seasons with the Ducks but while we’re talking to him we’ll also while we talk to JD excuse me uh we’ll also talk a little bit about Gru as well but figur we can call it there for today couple of final bits of news here Pavo bich has signed a six-year extension with the St Louis Blues for $8 million per season you guys don’t need me to tell you this but that is the worst move not just the worst trade the worst thing that Chris shury has done since becoming the ranger general manager and he’s had some ups and downs as jury he’s had some great moves he’s had some you lackluster moments this whole trouba debacle is is kind of on his uh his worst of list but nothing worse than that trade that sent pav bunich to the blues and exchange for blle and a second round pick and I know the Rangers are up against the cap now but you gotta figure they would have found a way to make it work with B navic if he produced with the reers the same way that he’s produced with the blues over the last handful of Seasons here uh two other former Rangers have homes Jack Johnson one year with Columbus at 775k Tyler Mt one year with uh Detroit at 800k I know some fans are upset about m not coming back but I’m kind of over it you know they traded for M twice he left both times in free agency to sign one-year deals around the league minimum with other teams he does the same thing here I’m not even sure the Rangers were really in on him this year but I like M when he was here you know tenacious player and did some good things but I’m not exactly heartbroken about this as far as like other free agents they’re still available tereno sprong rosic uh they’re kind of near the top of the list it’s getting to be slim Pickins I’m not really holding my breath on any of these guys and frankly I’m not so sure that I would even want rosic back tereno and sprung you know I’d be open to it if they had the cap space if they can make it work preferably if either of those guys would take a one-year deal not sure that either one would never say never but I’m not really expecting the Rangers to sign uh either of those guys either but that will do it for today guys once again if you’d like Why is Sprong at 27 years old and the ability to put up a 20 / 50 season and a right wing we covet not being considered?…I would off-load Kakko for him to fit him under the cap…Thoughts?
Reason why Othmann has chip on shoulder= 90% of fanbase, podcasters, sportscasters all focus on Rangers going after big star F. That means Kakko, Chytil, Brodz, Vesey, Cuylle, are all bottom 6..means he has no slot on team. Why is our once top prospect not even slotted as bottom 6? He almost made team out of camp last year. Every time fanbase wants big FA splash, means our top prospects wait longer. Can't get mad when we trade draft picks away, if you want your previous picks to be promoted. BTW.. you just did it yourself, basically saying Berard might make team out of camp!! doesn't sound like an Othmann endorsement from you!
WHy do you assume what Larry Brooks says about Trouba is true? You really think Drury DIDN'T know about Trouba's family situation and discussed that with Trouba? thats pretty naive of ANYONE who thinks that the turndown of the trade was an 11 th hour failure, and Drury was victimized by Trouba. IMO, this is naive reporting PRIMARILY by Brooks and the NY Post.
I would not expect us to have a 7th defenseman or 13th forward in the press box too often as they will be trying to accrue as much cap as possible for the deadline
All this talking when it’s not going to change a single thing.

They will keep these kids down because the front office dropped the ball with these long contracts for non superstar players.
