  1. Pretty crazy that none of their star players on a team friendly deal considering they have shown the inability to produce when it matters most. Same old story for the Leafs. No real change

  2. Most people here are complete doomers about this team after years of failures. If they bring the core back there's no reason to expect anything other than they comfortably make the playoffs and get bounced first round.

  3. Ironic thing about Robertson is that the trade request comes because of a lack of playing time; although he’s had some injuries, the Leafs are gonna need some depth scoring for the second and third line right where he’ll slot in as well as PP time. He could have a career year if he makes the right choice and signs.

  4. All i know is if the leafs ever win the florida celebration will look like a calm sunday picnic in comparison

  5. Top 4 have no 2nd gear when it comes to the playoffs.
Ball-less leaders and the rest will follow.

  6. W Berube coming in, something is going to give, and they will b successful, w or w out Matthews. Berube coming in will either make him all in, or all out and he will b moved . Matthews has the power to force a move if that's where his head is at.

  7. I'd love to see/know which metrics they used to justify Marner's and Nylander's contracts… Because players like them are usually signed under 10M… If you say points then it's very stupid… Because Toronto is an offensively run team and these player's stats are inflated… They wouldn't score so much on any other cup-contending team… Florida/Vegas/Tampa/Colorado etc. had extremely well-balanced teams in terms of salaries… And star players on these teams weren't paid anywhere near these 4 forwards… To me personally, Toronto looks similar to the Rangers in the no-salary cap era… They threw money on every player, but in the end achieved nothing… For Toronto, the players are no the problem… 0.8 points per game in PO is pretty good… the problem is the person who signed all those contracts…

  8. Sorta like when Sundin got Mogilny. The press loved these guys. Remember that? Nothing has changed in that sense. A smoke and mirror show that will never lose the market.

  9. Word is that Tavares is signing a 3 year deal worth 9 million at 3 per season. Thats why the leafs are willing to wait it out and sign him again this offseason.

  10. The scoring depth is not there because the core 4 take up so much of the cap (53.01% if you want to get into the weeds). Also, their goaltending and defense have largely been suspect as well because the core 4 don't include anyone at those positions.

  11. Tavares will finish this season as a leaf and deserves an extension at a significantly reduced cap hit. Hopefully Marner doesn't because it's been a long while of losing and given the fact that he was crying on the bench like a bantam hockey player at age 26, I no longer see ANY value in keeping him around. 1 goal and 2 assists in 7 playoff games when 2 if your teammates (Matthews and Nylander) miss 2 or more of those games and he didn't, clearly shows that he isn't a good team leader come playoff time

  12. THG questioning whether Knies can get over 20 goals a season in his career after getting 15 his rookie year is something I wouldn’t think I’d hear.

  13. I expect to see fewer goals against, the goaltending is inexperienced and therefore questionable but the defensemen seem stronger.

  14. This next year looks like another write off re playoffs. GM Brad may have to wait for summer 2025 cap space to build the right mix of skill and depth, unless he somehow makes some miracle trades this year. So, basically its up to the new coach to turn it around and bring playoff glory. Lol. Let us pray.

  15. TO is not going anywhere with the current lineup . It's just not a balanced team . They need to at least retool before they will be able to contend .

  16. Matthews is amazing in the regular season, where there's more space and teams aren't as hard on you…..then the Play-Offs begin and he does NOTHING. Heard the Leafs wana make him captain, such a Leafs thing too do haha.

  17. The Leafs are trying to go cheap on goaltending and hoping it works out. I think Samsonov will thrive in Vegas, there's too much scrutiny from playing in Toronto…

  18. I agree they need a 3rd line that can score. Here's my suggestion for it. Robertson, Minten, Marner. Defensively sound with the chance to put the puck in the net. Roll 3 lines and mix in the 4th line every so often

  19. Leaf fan here. I don’t think it is. Whats changed? Ok you’ve changed the defence a bit. That hasn’t been the issue at least vs Boston. When you score 12 goals in 7 games and go a whopping 1/22 on the powerplay, you need depth. It’s not surprising they are keeping Marner they’ve been married to this core since day 1, but it’s so clearly not working. They will regret this one day when they are looking back on how they wasted the prime years of Auston Matthews. Hopefully they catch lightning in a bottle, I’m not holding my breath tho. This team has consistently shown year after year they don’t have that dawg in them. They are more than good enough to go to game 7, not good enough to win game 7. I’d love nothing more than to be wrong but at this point it’s just being realistic, this is nothing more then a front heavy, #3 team in the Atlantic

  20. Every year this team bangs its head against the wall with the same 4 players adds a few 3rd liners bottom pairing defencemen backup goalies and says “why can’t we win” changes the bottom lines again, ignores the 50% of the cap going to 4 guys. It’s so frustrating we have some truly elite talents and doing nothing with them. Another year. Sigh

  21. This is their last year of "contention" then Marner walks for free because they clearly aren't trading him. He can go be a god somewhere else, then they can finish in the basement 7 years in a row and see how they like Sens fans when they're in our position.

  22. Core 4 at contract time: "Give us all the money."
Core 4 at playoff time: "We need more quality depth behind us"
And they blew the "hard division" excuse after losing to Columbus and Montreal.
