WOR VS DER MATCH PREDICTION & ANALYSIS

The 2024 Vitality Blast is heading towards its final stages, with the league stage all set to culminate this Friday. The top four from both groups are yet to be finalized, but some teams have surely missed the bus this time. Worcestershire Rapids, for instance, are languishing at the bottom half of the table and are now out of contention for qualifying for the next stage. They will be taking on Derbyshire Falcons in Worcester this Thursday. Derbyshire are in 7th place in the North Group and still have a chance to make it to the quarter-finals. This is, hence, an all-important clash for them.

TEAMS PREVIEW

Worcestershire Preview

Worcestershire Rapids have had a forgettable season, winning only 4 of their 13 games and losing 9 matches. They have managed just 8 points at a poor NRR of -0.203 and, hence, have no chance of qualifying for the next round.

The team’s batting has primarily revolved around Adam Hose (290 runs in 12 innings at a strike rate of 130) and Ethan Brookes (285 runs in 13 innings at 144).

Josh Cobb has also had a decent season, scoring 257 runs in 11 innings at 130.

Worcestershire’s bowling has been their weak link this year. They haven’t been able to get regular wickets, nor have they managed to keep the batting team’s run flow in check.

Tom Taylor has been their standout bowler, taking 17 wickets in 13 games at an economy of 8.93. Matthew Waite, with 12 wickets at 8.66, has also been good. Unfortunately, the unit hasn’t delivered as a whole, and that has been the cause of their below-par performance this year.

Worcestershire Predicted Playing XI:

Kashif Ali, Ed Pollock, Josh Cobb, Adam Hose (c), Rob Jones, Gareth Roderick (wk), Matthew Waite, Ethan Brookes, Nathan Smith, Tom Taylor, Hayden Walsh

Derbyshire Preview

Derbyshire Falcons haven’t had the greatest season as well. They are in 7th place currently with 11 points. However, they have two games left and if they win them both with convincing margins, they still have an outside chance of making it to the top four.

For that to happen, their top batters will need to fire. David Lloyd has topped Derbyshire’s batting charts this year with a terrific performance, scoring 293 runs in 11 innings at a strike rate of 141.

Not far behind is Wayne Madsen, with 270 runs in 12 innings at 120.

Another one to watch out for is Samit Patel, who has 208 runs in 11 innings at 153.

The bowling department has almost completely been dependent on Patrick Brown (17 wickets in 11 innings at an economy of 8.76) and Zak Chappell (14 wickets in 11 at 9.24).

Captain Samit Patel has also been quite handy with his left-arm spin, claiming 9 wickets at a miserly rate of just 6.81.

Derbyshire Predicted Playing XI:

Aneurin Donald, Luis Reece, David Lloyd, Wayne Madsen, Samit Patel (c), Brooke Guest (wk), Ross Whiteley, Zak Chappell, Alex Thomson, Patrick Brown, Mohammad Amir
