Our Top 5 Reasons for Optimism in Ottawa This Season

Our Five Reasons for Optimism This Season. Making Sense of the Roby Jarventie Deal. Jan Jenik is all that’s left from the Mark Stone trade now, but Steve Staios thinks highly of him. At least, he used to. Mads Sogaard signed a two-year deal. When asked about an extension, Claude Giroux gave the same answer Jakob Chychrun gave in April.

  1. I didn't mind Giroux's answer on Coming in Hot. He went into more detail about it. He said he hadn't even talked to his wife about it. Either he's being disingenuous or his mind is totally on the Senators and the challenge in front of him. Based on how focused and intense he is, I wouldn't be surprised if that's the case.

If the team gets off to a bad start then I would expect he'd start thinking of other options. He might still prefer to stay in Ottawa but maybe not. So pondering possibilities at this stage isn't that helpful. How the team does in the first half of the season will probably have a huge influence on what direction he goes. He probably just told his agent to wait until later (mid-season, or after the season) when there will be more clarity.

  2. Personally, I think that often, when Brady fights to fire up the team, that it backfires. He'd be better off just playing to shut down the other team and score.
