Oliver Wahlstrom Signed a Contract but Will He Still Be with the New York Islanders This Season?

The New York Islanders avoided arbitration and signed forward Oliver Wahlstrom to a one-year deal worth $1 million. The new contract doesn’t guarantee that Wally will still be with the Islanders when the season starts on October 10th. We discuss where Wahlstrom could fit into the Isles lineup and why it’s still more likely than not that GM Lou Lamoriello trades him before the season gets started.

Plus, captain Anders Lee spoke about the Isles chances this year and why he thinks this will be a better team in 2024-25.

All this and more on today’s Locked On Islanders Podcast with Gil Martin.

  1. Why? This doesn't even make sense. 26 needs to move on. And louzer can't move 26 because he has no trade value. Perfect fkn match for each other. I heard tb may have interest in 26. Maybe louzer can get one of tb's 4 7th round picks in '25 for 26. One 'expert' put a video out today with his 6 teams that will be at the bottom of nhl the next 10 years. I reminded him that one of his picks will be at the bottom of the nhl for many years to come. Can you guess which team that was?
Of note-Isle '23 fourth round pick j. nurmi has signed on to play with london ohl so nurmi will get n. american development in the top developmental league next season under dale fkn hunter.

  2. Well well look who is going to field a 23 man roster. Don’t panic Gil. I am optimistic pageu will not be here at start of year. We will have 23 man –
And be cap compliant…but we shall see! lgi

  3. Good 🌄, Gil, how are you? So The Islanders signed Oliver Wahlstrom; however, he still might be trade bait. Ever since he came up, he's either been hurt, or like I said before, he didn't get along with Barry Trotz or Patrick Roy. If he's still when October 10th comes along, he better work his tail off during training camp starts. He's 24 years old, so he still has a chance to prove himself. Anders Lee thinks The Islanders will be better when the season starts. Lee's right when Patrick Roy came in mud season, he brought intensity and enthusiasm with him. Anthony DuClair will bring speed and energy on the ice, and in the dressing room. Also they must to stay healthy. HAPPY 🎂, OLEG KOVASHA. Best February 11, 2004, in Dallas he set up 2 goals and scored a goals he had a hand in all 4 goals. Hear from you later, Gil, and LET'S GO ISLANDERS.

  4. Good morning team. Gil, I'm going to try to find the positive of this transaction with Wally. Maybe you're right. Even with this contract, there is a strong possibility Wally won't be an Islander by the start of the season. But let's say he is, and he is given a "chance", and he does get on the ice. The contract he signed may be just the thing to get an extra jump in his step. I guess only time will tell. I have always liked Wally, and even defended him at times, but if he doesn't put up now, he is going to have to shut up and move on. Thank you again. Gil. Everyone, have a wonderful weekend. Looking forward to our next time. Until then.. Let's Go Islanders!!

  5. louzer needs to cut the shit and appropriately plan for hagins and mckenna the next two drafts before pens get them. enough of this chikn shit lets just scratch the same old stale roster together every season. And that is why an unproductive 26 remains-cheap contract cause no $$$'s or assets are available to upgrade that spot with a forward that can produce. A lot of 26 apologists on here. 26 had his chance and failed. 36 total goals. Should dump 27 and use 26 as a sweetner. Jets have moves to make and need a r d. Laine still out there. Flames are in deep re-build and will need cap $$$'s by start of season. Get off your old ass and do something louzer who at this rate may have to do nothing to get those guys.
