A make or break season for the Habs | Can Trudeau take the next step? | Last chance for Anderson?

Inside the latest Locked on Canadiens

It’s a crucial season for the Montreal Canadiens, with their rebuilding phase likely coming to a close in the near future. So Scott wants to examine what makes this season so “make or break” for the Habs.

With that, we’ll also take a look at what prospects are on the verge of being left behind and need to have a huge year to stake their claim. With a massive crop of defenders in the pro ranks, what does William Trudeau need to do in order to keep afloat with them? Luke Tuch, despite just turning pro will need a big rookie year to keep his name around for a potential NHL spot during his ELC as well.

Speaking of the NHL and its roster, which players are on their last chance in Montreal? It’s easy to point at Josh Anderson(and we will), but what about some of the players on the fringe right now? Rafaël Harvey-Pinard’s broken leg might end up being a huge hurdle for him in terms of scoring more playing time, and what about someone Jordan Harris on defence?

  1. Want to get your thoughts on who in the East we are going to pass. We finished second from the bottom in the East. I think the Habs will be better but don’t see the Habs finishing higher than 82 points next year. I think you are rushing expectations by a year. Not a make or break year. Either way if we don’t progress then it is not time to panic.

  2. Maybe challenge for a wildcard thisyear baring
Injuries , but more then likely next year they will make a jump,

  3. I enjoy your comments and podcast's generally. I am disappointed in the make or break view of this podcast. Anyone expecting this team to make the playoffs or make a significant improvement is missing the point of this rebuild.

I would rather state that’s it’s a make or break for some of the young players. Baron being a prime example, Harris and Primeau as well. These guys can’t be sent down to Laval without loosing them on waivers.

As for the ret of the kids, it’s on going development time. If let’s say Roy has a so so year, the management team isn’t going to give up on him. Then we are also stuck with some vets for one year such as DVO and Armia and stuck with Galky and Anderson for several years.

To me this year is just about development and getting ready for the next draft and the next off season when we will have tons of cap space and getting ready for Demidov’s arrival.
