Just like with the other original six teams there were a lot of good choices for the Canadiens and I couldn’t fit all of them into the post. Lmk what you think the biggest omissions were from this one.
I remember watching a preseason game the year Tanguay played for the Habs, and they asked him how it felt, growing up in Quebec and playing for Montreal. His response started with “Well, I was a Nordiques fan,” and I didn’t hear anything else because I was laughing too hard.

Brilliant choice for Staal’s pic.
Also, for Ramage:
> show up
> play 21 total games
> win Cup
> leave
> refuse to elaborate
Power move.

That’s all the games Vanek played? I genuinely almost don’t believe it.

I always remember Kaberle playing here way longer than that.
Also Kovalchuks time was short but it put a giant smile on my face, especially his first goal

I’m actually surprised Doug Gilmour isn’t on this list. I absolutely LOVED Gilmour on the Habs, but it was still really weird seeing him in a Habs uniform at first.
BaganLeleo
I remember being so hyped when the Habs got Vanek for next to nothing. The first major deadline day trade I remember the Habs making
Vokoun had one of the worst stat lines in history: 1 game (20 minutes), .714 save percentage, and a 12.00 GAA. He was back down in the AHL almost immediately after that partial game, and didn’t get a recall the next season either.
When Nashville took him in the expansion draft, I figured they were nuts for taking him instead of Sebastien Bordeleau – they acquired Bordeleau for “future considerations”, and drafted Vokoun. I thought it would have made way more sense to just take Bordeleau and not have to take on a complete dud like Vokoun.
Shows what I know.

Esposito is the real weird one on that list. It feels very wrong.

Staal might have been 21 regular season games, but he was very much key to getting to round 4 of the playoffs – he played 21 playoff games for the Habs as well.

Some of these I don’t find odd. Like Vokun and Conroy. They were both drafter by the Habs and played for the baby Habs in Fredericton. I remember watching both of them play in the 90’s when the team was still in town.

Missing Darcy Tucker, Devante Smith-Pelly, Georges Laraque, John Scott

Tyler Toffoli only played 89 games for Montréal and trading him away still hurt to this day.

Okay but the games Kovalchuk played for Montreal were majestic.
