The problem is that if Brock has another season like he had last year, the Canucks might end up losing him for nothing because they won't be able to afford to pay him in the double digits. I love the guy, but I care about the team more. If Hughes is willing to pony up a big package for Boeser, I'm taking it and running. Paying Brock 10+ long term shouldn't be an option because they have Kent's son coming up in a couple of years, as well as Demko. The cap will go up, but by how much? They can only have so many high priced players. As for Pettersson, he's a back to back 100 and 80+ point player, so he's a totally different player. Brock scored 40 goals once.

Habs have never signed a UFA in his prime in the last 30 years and it won’t probably ever happen, nobody wants to come to Montreal
Honestly, the entire team taking discounts to play here tells me that brock will do the same. Alot of smaller contracts are coming off the books and cap going up will offset the oel buyout.
The only way we trade brock is if his production falls off a cliff and someone is willing to offer multiple picks and top prospects

it makes no sense to me why anyone expected him to dominate. in his draft year, as a small left shot center, he was BARELY a PPG in the WHL. Then he lost half a year of deveopment in his D+1. then d+2 he was boucned all over the place and in his career up to this point, he was NEVER a goal scorer. he was a high skill , average skating playmaking small center…. since then he's strugged to put up points in the NHL… why is this a surprise?
Based on his profile and stats leaidng up to the draft, he should have gone in the 25 – 31 range… and if that was the case, then his career up to this point woul;d make a lot of sense.
