When A 36 Year Old Sidney Crosby Made NHL History

Sidney Crosby may be one of the greatest hockey players to ever lace them up. We take a deep dive on how he’s still dominating the NHL at 36 years old.

  1. His hyper-competitiveness makes him such an x-factor. One of the best comparisons I've seen is between him and Kobe (similar generations, the Gretzky/MJ comparisons)

  2. 6:04 is still one of the nastiest goals I've ever seen by anyone to this day. One handed backhander while pushing away multiple defenders like they're paper.

    Geez!!!!

  3. ***good at absorbing contact except for the near career ending concussions. both can be true but if he spent a lot of time of his prime injured i don't know if he really absorbed the hits.

  4. Crosby was the star I had growing up him and iginla were my two idols 🔥 can’t believe how good he is still had a way better season than ovi as well

  5. I met Sidney Crosby at a Pens-Avs game and got his autograph on my Penguins puck. He was one of the nicest people that I have ever met. He will definitely be a unanimous first round Hall of Famer. GO PENS!!!🖤💛🏒

  6. Not sure why you showed ovi while saying "players at 36 yo are shells of their former selves." Ovi had 90 points and 50 goals at 36 yo. Lets see what Sid puts up at 38 yo.

  7. Been following hockey through highlights for about 15 years, can't watch any games due to time constraints as I am UK based but it will be a fantastic but also sad day seeing number 87 lifted to the rafters. knowing we had the privilege to watch a great player like Crosby but also knowing that it will not be the same anymore without him. Until that day, let's all enjoy every moment that we have left with him on the ice 🙂

  8. I see a lot of people nowadays talking about how “McDavid solos Sid,” etc. I don’t take offense to it because the fact Sid is 36 and still in that conversation is absolutely wild and something us Pens fans are so lucky to be able to hang our hats on.

  9. I always thought that by now Syd would be a latter day Brian Trottier or Steve Yserman, giving up offence to be a solid defensive forward in order to stay in the game. The fact he is doing that yet remains a better than point a game player is amazing.

  10. When you get to a certain age and everyone older than 33 is considered DEAD already; when announcers tell you the players' age if it's above 35 EVERY DAMN TIME they touch the puck; and sobering comments like, "how could someone older than 30 possibly be useful? let's break down the footage," I can't help root for those in the back half of their career. Sid is #1 in that department. Feeding perfect one-timers and empty nets to a slow and marginally valuable Ovechkin just to beat one of the most cherished Gretzky records is sleazy hockey. But Sid is still quality at all ends and responsibilities and is loved by players. How can you not root for the guy even if you hate the Pens? I'll mourn when he retires.

  11. At 00:35 of this video you say "Now at 36 years old, most hockey players become a shell of their former self." and you show a clip of Ovi.

Ovi scored 50 goals and had 90 points in 77 games when he was age 36. 8 more goals in 5 less games than Sid. At age 36 Ovi scored 1.16 points per game, where as at age 36 Sid scored 1.14 points per game.

    WTF?

  12. The things this man did to try and carry a poverty Penguins team last season is nothing short of incredible the Penguins just need to know how to play defense and have better depth scoring AKA the bottom six and the bottom two D Men pairing

  13. We can add another contender to fight Father Time, it was lebron and now Crosby, generational talents and one of the most consistent players to their sport

  14. May not show on the stats, but he is undoubtedly one of the greatest players of all time. The older I get, the more I love & respect Sid. He’s been my generation’s Gretzky.

  15. I always had respect for Crosby but admittedly back in his early days I used to join in on some of the scoffing and eye-rolling when his name was mentioned. I feel like at this point, even if you aren't a Crosby fan, you still HAVE to give him the respect he deserves. The guy has earned his title as a hockey legend to the likes of Gretzky and Lemieux, and to have had the opportunity to watch his whole career, looking back now feels like an absolute privilege. The guy worked harder than anyone, never took anything for granted, was true to his roots, and loyal to his country AND his NHL team. There was a point where it looked like his career might have even come to an end with the severe concussions he suffered, yet here he is getting nearer to the end of his career and still putting up elite numbers. At this point if you still hate Crosby well then you are just a petty old douchebag.

  16. Personally I think it's mostly work ethic. As Iverson said about Kobe, "when we're out at the club, he's practicing." In other words the guy never did anything fun. Just contemplated basketball 24/7. I think many of those other players you mentioned, Ovi, Pavelski, etc…they could be their own version of themselves if they had the attitude to the training and commitment to BEING that good at that age. I'd be willing to bet if you look deeply into their lives off the ice you'll see they simply don't work as hard as he does.

  17. Crosby having the best faceoff win percentage of his career (58.2%) in 23-24 is another element of his aging like fine wine.

  18. Ok he said “breakneck speed” almost right away turning this off. So irritating to me speed doesnt break necks. Sudden acceleration or deceleration could not the actual speed. I have the need
The need for breakretardedredneckspeed /clownface trying to sound intelligent like kids who just discovered muhammad ali on the internet and say “wow.. so underrated”😅 like umm 3 world titles disagrees with your underrated assesment there

  19. Do a video on Todd Bertuzzi. After the Moore incident he became a shell of himself, absolutely a “hockey psychology” story.

  20. Thank you for making this video to celebrate Sid’s birthday coming soon in a few days! 🎉❤

  21. Sid was on 140-150 point pace when he got concussions, and that was during the lowest scoring era ever in NHL.

  22. It's funny how you left out Mattew's at the start of the video guy only got 69 goals 23-24 season you must be a Leaf hater??

  23. You know HP, i hate to say it… but…

You need to make more videos, cause ive binge watched all of your videos i think like 4 times now….PLEASE WE NEED MOARRRRRRRRRRRR 😅

  24. Thanks for reminding me of that beautiful one-handed goal from Crosby. Truly an incredible player and we Pens are lucky to have him
