Nashville Predators Under Pressure: Steven Stamkos, Juuse Saros, Tommy Novak?

With higher expectations for the Nashville Predators comes more pressure for several players on the roster. On today’s Locked On Predators, we’ll talk about the added pressure new players like Steven Stamkos and Brady Skjei face in their first season in gold. Two contracts may put added pressure on goaltender Juuse Saros at one specific point in 2024-2025 and Tommy Novak as he works to become that key second line center for the Predators. Finally, we’ll tell you two reasons why Andrew Brunette may feel a little more pressure in his sophomore season as Nashville’s head coach.

  1. Sissons might be “under the radar” with the national media, but he isn’t within the Preds fan base. One of my favorite Preds memories was taking my kids to see the Preds play for the first time and it was against Vegas during the Preds “dropping like flies” 22/23 season. None of the big names played in that game, because they were all injured. There were so many Siissons signs in the crowd that day. The energy was high and we all knew that the Preds would win, we had no doubt. The Preds ended up winning in OT and beating Vegas at full strength (who would go on to win the Cup that year). The rest of the world might not know who Colton is, but we all sure do! 😎

  2. I think people also are looking at cap hits in a vacuum. This year is tight. However the game is growing and the cap (hopefully) is only going to keep going up and i think these contracts arent gonna hurt that much.

  3. I think the big person who has some pressure is Cody Glass. Assuming he is still on the team (I personally hope he is) I think there is going to be a tremendous amount of pressure on him to perform and prove he has what it takes to be in that bottom/middle 6 area. He obviously has the skill, it's a matter of putting it together, but with how competitive spots are now and with talent like Tomasino and Parssinen chomping at the bit, there is going to be some pressure to perform

  4. People forget Stamkos was a 60 goal scorer long before Kucherov and Point hit the scene. Stars shine under pressure and they take it off others at the same time. Add in a little salty attitude about how he may perceive he was treated and the motivation factor may kick him into overdrive. I think he’s going to have a fantastic year, it’s not like he’s going to a team where he’s expected to carry the whole load. Nashville was a pretty decent team before his arrival. Kucherov is a star, but Vegas has his over under 40 points less than last years total. Number came out after signing. They obviously think his play will be affected by Stamkos departure and Guetzle signing. This number doesn’t throw a ton of confidence Guentzles way either. Absolutely a great move by Trotz.

  5. I think the big person who has some pressure is Cody Glass. Assuming he is still on the team (I personally hope he is) I think there is going to be a tremendous amount of pressure on him to perform and prove he has what it takes to be in that bottom/middle 6 area. Go Preds

  6. I would say the guys under the most pressure with the Predators are Stamkos and Marchy, but they should expect that (you get paid like they did and I would expect both would want to make their respective former teams regret letting them go)—for me they don't have to put up video game numbers. Stammer–I'm not expecting 40 goals but reasonable i think for him between 20 to 30 goals and 20-30 assists? I think so…at the very least playmaking same with Marchy. We absolutely should not be in the middle (or bottom) of the league in power play goals. Winning the offseason is great for headlines–chemistry with linemates is going to be huge. Stammer on a line with Evangelista—Marchy on the wing with Novak? The new guys should play with a chip on their shoulder. Those young dudes have to make the old guys look good now's their chance. So really the young guys have the pressure because now you have high caliber linemates you are rolling with on the roster.
