  1. The fact that anything is considered taboo among GMs is crazy. You are COMPETING with eachother that's like players choosing not to hit eachother because it might hurt the other guys feelings. Take advantage of anything you can find, holding out from offer sheeting for no reason is so dumb

  2. The Oilers have no choice but to walk away from this. These players will not be the difference with them making the playoffs so they should let it go, upgrade the defence at the deadline and look to get a defenceman in free agency in the offseason. The Oilers cup window is this season with the veterans that have taken pay cuts to be there so blowing up the cap for two unproven young guys is a non-starter.

  3. As an oilers fan this don’t bother me, St Louis can have them those players aren’t that impactful anyways

  4. My only confusion is that we don't hear about these teams getting permission to talk to these players and an offer sheet goes out how is it not "Tampering" in the CBA? don't get me wrong, I do like the drama in the summer these can cause but still trying to figure out how there is no tampering or poaching fines going out for the offer sheets as they talked to the player behind the teams back obviously.

  5. I am pretty sure if we don't see as many offer sheets it's because of grudges and potential trades later down the road. Ask Carolina. This is also why the Habs sign their players 1 year in advance now.

  6. as much as I hate the move, its a smart one from the Blues. Not only do they hinder the Oilers even more with cap issues this season, if they match, they also mess up the Oilers cap for next year. Trade Ceci, put Kane on LTIR, to keep both, or keep Broberg with Kane on LTIR..

  7. Oilers fan here. I don't see either of these players going to the blues. Both of these players are worth more than a second and a third. If they can't make the money work; match the deals, then trade them.

  8. This will make other GMs think twice about hitting the cap ceiling. They'll have to start doing their job instead of just throwing money at problems.

  9. The Oilers are already 7 something million over. You can only go 10% over the cap in the off season. So baring them making multiple trades they literally can't match these offers. And this amounts essentially too the cap space they are saving from Krug missing the entire season. This was masterful work by the Blues.

  10. Even if kane goes on ltir thats still just over 2mil they have to unload somehow and already without a first and a second this year.

If it was anyother gm id feel pretty bad about since it seems as dammed if you do dammed if you dont. HOWEVER, because its bowman, go for the kill.

  11. Those offer sheets didn't sign themselves. Let em walk, take the draft picks, and load up for a hot STL youngster or two, or three, or four, in the future. Payback is a B. 🤷‍♂

  12. Take away draft position, I think a 2nd & 3rd would be worth it based on production for the two players.

If I’m Edmonton, I let both walk, take the picks and go shopping. Maybe a team like MTL who currently have too many NHL D. Be aggressive on waivers during camp and maybe sign a vet to a PTO or league min contract (JVR, Shattenkirk, etc.).

  13. Just watch Lou Lamerello go and cry to Gary Bettman about this and then the Blues will have to send Robert Thomas and our next 5 1st rounders to the Oilers because of a nonsensical arbitration.

  14. Oiler fan here:

This sucks, but lets not get carried away.

Broberg's play during the finals and the Nurse situation virtually assures hes getting matched. Holloway is basically already in St Louis. Oilers have 8 forwards better than Hollaway —- he's tied for 9th best with Janmark and Connor Brown.

We dont care about anyone potential 3 years from today. So enjoy our 9th best forward St Louis.

  15. Doug Armstrong is just a straight up savage. Love it. Steen has a great 'in' with the Swedes and the Blues seem to be recruiting them left and right.
