JT was all in to name AM34 new Capo. No sour grapes. He was working with management on this.
Leafs never changed captaincy when a player is still a captain ,leafs didn't always the best player as captain but the mature player like George Armstrong in 1967 should've. Waited until np longer leaf disagree with the move
I despise JT that much that I would literally pay another team to take him. The most gutless and heartless Captain in Leafs history. They didn't need him when they signed him in the first place and they sure as f#@k don't need him now.

Matthew's is the super star of that team. This move puts the team on his shoulders and they will live & die by his example on/off the ice.
Tavares was pulseless…hardly could tell he had a pulse on the ice. Always looks glum and sulking.

Dude, you can't honestly believe that Tavares had ANYTHING to do with this decision! He's being stripped of the C and they're just putting a positive PR spin on it so he can save a little face. Not that it matters much anyway. Things aren't going to be any better with Mathlose as captain!

Awful move by a clueless franchise. Matthews is not a leader of men. This isn't moving the needle at all.

TAVERES IS THE MOST OVERRATED PLAYER IN HOCKEY.
As a leafs fan since '67, i kinda think they did JT dirty on this one. They could have waited until the end of his contract to move the C. Sure, it's reported that JT was ok with this, but what else was he going to say? Mathews deserves the C for sure, but I'm not at all impressed with the way they did it.
Plan the parade
John is the first Leaf's Captain to be stripped of the C in almost 40 years. The last time was 1986 under crazy Harold Ballard. JT is 100% class and won't say anything negative about Leaf management, but on April 17 he becomes a UFA.
I disagree with doing this. Perhaps they did as a condition of him not waiving to be dealt in this offseason, so I assume the only reason why he's still supportive of it, it's because he gets to stay

Not a Leaf fan but JT should never have been captain in the first place the Leafs should have gone with the āAā until they picked someone. Even if it was a few years later.
