Elliotte Friedman dropped some news on the Cody Glass trade and Askarov trade rumors.

Around the 20 minute mark Elliotte goes over the Glass trade but also some new developments with Askarov. Sounds like he does not want to play in the AHL the upcoming year and the Preds may be ready to move on.

I am really curious what is actually going on.  I don’t mind trading him but feel like we are going to take a huge discount just to move him.  Feels like a different version of waiving Eeli Tolvanan to get him to the AHL.

I will never understand why we didn’t just move Askarov up as the backup this season and instead signed and spent more money on a backup goalie. Let him learn under Korn, let him flash and either keep him around or raise his trade value in a year. We could have kept Cody glass and had some more cap space by not signing a new backup.

The Scott Wedgwood signing still confuses me. Bringing Askarov up to be the backup made perfect sense

I’m curious as to what Askarov is expecting is going to happen. He has the skill to be an NHL goaltender, but is lacking in the mental/emotional aspect. He has been pulled from the starters crease in 2 consecutive playoffs, and teams have seen that. On top of that he is a top goalie prospect, if not THE top goalie prospect in the world, so the ask is likely really high, but the list of teams that both want him and can acquire him is very short.

On top of all of that, it isn’t like he doesn’t have a place in Nashville’s system, it’s just not as fast as he wants.

I think the Wedgewood signing was to provide insurance incase Askarov was not ready to be in the NHL. Like others have said he lost his crease two playoffs in a row. With the signings Trotz made this off season they need him to be a solid backup and not be a question mark as the season progresses. Saros can have his off times and we cannot have two goalies who are liabilities.

I feel like they’re gonna trade him for an underwhelming return and he’ll become elite… Really don’t get why they’re treating the #1 goalie prospect in the league like a Tomasino type prospect and picked the 29 year old on a contract that’s gonna age badly instead 😐

He’s gonna be ready to be a starter in 2 years at the rate of his development now. And that’s really damn good. Please Barry, please don’t trade him away. In 3-4 years this teams short window slams shut, Saros will start to decline, and you’re gonna have to rebuild. Not having a top tier goalie to rebuild around will completely screw you over. Askarov is the only great thing we have to look forward to beyond the next couple of years and it’s what’s giving me hope for the future. I don’t think there’s a return out there that’s worth it unless there’s some stuff way deep behind the scenes we don’t know about.
