Crazy you two almost had a double header with nice gar. Good thing your friend escaped severe injury. If it would have been worse it would have been a freak accident, that fish is just trying to survive. Nature can be brutal but it ended well enough this time.
that was an attack..an attempt to bite..it something all fish with sharp teeth do..defensive action …period..would have been more interesting though…

A little pike got me pretty good a couple weeks ago. I dropped him in my net in the water, quickly addressed the bleeding and then got em' unhooked and watched it swim off happy.
It wasn't anyone's fault but my own.

They can be nasty fish for sure! I caught a small 22" Gar last week and it bit my forearm. Nothing major but had two small punchers from his teeth!! 🙂 They are fighters and feisty for sure!! Glad you're ok!! Great video!!
