  1. I still think an eventual Kleven/Yakemchuk is going to be VERY cool to follow. Now, just get me Dopson to line up beside Sanderson and I'll shut up.

  2. Not surprised Yakemchuk is that low its probably where we would rate him if the Sens werent to draft him. They left a lot of value on the table and took a big risk to draft a guy with upside similar to guys that went in that range of the draft with much more risk. His skating is just so far from NHL level he'll be a project but I hope it works out cause they need a solid RHD for the future

  3. If we’re being honest, Yak was a reach. A big reach. He was the 5-6th best D (using most pre draft analysis). I was shocked when I heard that is who they had picked.

Don’t get me wrong, he may turn out to be Sanderson-esque, a “reach” who later looked like a steal. But those two are almost exact opposites. Sandy was a high floor, young prospect, great skater, who had questionable offensive upside. Yak is a boom or bust, older prospect with questionable skating and hockey sense (more individual than playmaking highlights). But he was big and a RD. Sandy had the tools to surprise to the upside. Yak has the flaws to surprise to the downside.

36 feels low…but I get it. He hasn’t done anything since the draft to change minds. His performance at Team Canada camp was generally viewed as disappointing, so he has work to do.

I’m cheering for him, but really have to squint and trust our scouts to believe in this pick (but what do I know? I’m just a guy with an opinion and very few viewings of prospects). I was convinced that “Steady Steve Staios” would stay away from Yak and Parekh and pick a higher floor D. I underestimated the fact that you can’t teach size. 🤷
