Laine’s up and down journey to Montreal

Drafted second overall by the Jets in 2016, Patrik Laine flew out of the gates as a rookie, setting a new Jets / Thrashers franchise record for goals by a rookie. Since then, the Finnish forward saw a rise and fall in Winnipeg, which eventually led him to Columbus. Now a Canadien, here is a deep dive into Laine’s career in the SC Timeline.

  1. I remember his fanboys saying he would score more goals than Ovechkin over his career because of his earlier start. He’s only 649 goals back.

  2. He will crumble mentally in any strong hockey market. 8 million is a big cap hit for a guy who probably scores 20 goals.

  3. I remember the Blue Jackets were a really fun team to watch like the Senators. Now they're both pretty bad for a number of years.
