So while you’re already getting contracts done, Pat….

Good shit. Have to imagine he’s with the big club this year given that was allegedly his biggest sticking point in not wanting to sign with Winnipeg.

    McGroarty – Crosby – Rust

    Bunting – Malkin – Rakell

Isn’t horrible. Although we have an insane logjam at forward now.

Time to trade some of the guys at the bottom for late round picks/future considerations

Performance bonus? Yeah. Buddy is playing in the NHL this year. It stings to see Yager go because I was getting attached to the idea of him post-Crosby, but Rutger is the real deal. We’ve got the WJC villain now.

Welp, you can’t say we’re not trying to fix the power play. We got our net-front guy now!

Something I haven’t seen mentioned yet. He was the Captain or the US national team that got gold last season. He’s a pure leader with an edge. He’s possibly the next captain of this team.

I love Yager but he wins Lady Bings. I want that playoff style grit!

The problem most players face coming to Pittsburgh is the caliber of players here. Any other team they are potential 1st line players. Here they are fourth line. Look at the players we lost over the years and where they end up on their new teams.

If you’re a top tier center you really think you are taking Crosby / Malkins spots? Up till guentzal getting traded breaking into the top six, short of several injuries, was near impossible.

I like his skill set we don’t have enough of it

Maybe we can actually build a 3rd line with some scoring?

Great trade McGroarty plays a lot heavier of a game than Yager. McGroarty reminds me of a tkachuk with his skill and physicality also leadership qualities as he captained usa u20 last year

Probably an unpopular opinion here, but I see this as having Winnipeg bent over a barrel and giving them equal value back. Unlike the Cutter Gauthier trade, everyone knew the player had problems signing with Winnipeg. I would have rather sacrificed a top-10 protected first or a package of picks and mid-tier prospects. I really wanted McGroarty, and I’m not opposed to the trade off, but I feel like there could have been a way to sacrifice less.
