Edstrom just came off a really solid year in the SHL as a 18 year old. I also expect Vegas to take a step back this year so that first rounder has a shot to be a lottery pick

Edit: the first rounder is top 10 protected which puts a damper on things a little, but still solid overall

Underwhelming but to be expected, oh well

Not that i’m wishing failure on Askarov but all year next year he’s gonna get absolutely pelted and it may affect if he reaches his potential or not

I’ll miss the hell out of Asky, but it is what it is. A Cup with this window will make this much easier to handle.

I need Barry Trotz to call Stillman. I am dying to hear what he has to say about how this all played out.

Underwhelmed like most everyone, but I guess on the bright side, there’s a chance both San Jose and Vegas’s first round picks are lottery picks this year.

  6. Not too bad considering it seemed Asky had more leverage. As much as I would’ve loved to have kept him, I was getting really tired of the trade rumors and I’m just glad it’s over

  7. So with Goose gone and now Asky traded, does this mean Chrona is going to be the Ads starter?

If the Predators don’t win the cup in the next two or 3 years this has the potential to be gut-wrenching. I know he forced their hand, but you just traded the number one goalie prospect in the world, and the return is extremely questionable.

  9. So now Afanasayev is going to come back from Russia to play with his bestie?

Not sure why everyone is underwhelmed? It’s basically two firsts for an unproven goalie who put in a trade request. That’s pretty good.

this You Suck chant is going to feel so good in bridgestone

Glad we got a first and a former first. Hopefully can translate into something good.

4pm Trotz on Stillman. I’m happy to post an update here if anybody can’t listen and wants it. I do a “Trotz Talks” summary for a friend every time he’s on anyway 😂

A former first round, big body center, another first, and a depth goalie. Could be worse, but I can’t help but reflect on this franchise’s horrible history with prospect development and retention.

So if I understand the conditional pick correctly, Nashville will get whichever San Jose pick ends up lower. So if both San Jose and Vegas suck, then we could still get a lottery pick out of this.

At this point if you’re gonna be upset, be upset at GMDP, not Trotzy. Crazy to ever have taken Asky with the future clearly belonging to Juice

  17. Hey man we’ve got 3 first rounders next year that’s pretty damn good if you’re Barry trotz trying to be in a “win now and also be good later” mindset. Realistically Askarov was gonna be gone eventually anyway, his timeline and saros’s were a few years off from lining up perfectly like the Rinne Saros transition, and this franchise has shown they can train up good goalies from the later rounds anyways

    From the Athletic:

    David Edstrom
    VGK
    Height: 6′ 3″
    Weight: 190 Ibs
    DOB: Feb. 18, 2005

Edstrom was a steady riser in his draft year last season. He was one of Sweden’s best players as their first-line centre at U18 worlds after a good season split between Frolunda’s J20 and SHL team, establishing himself as a borderline-dominant player against his peers and demonstrating he can hang against men. This year, he has played a regular role in the SHL and centered Sweden’s third line (though they were used like a second line at times) at the world juniors. Again playing alongside his U18 worlds linemates of Otto Stenberg and Felix Unger Sorum, he was the least impressive of the three and a little quiet.

His stride is a little stilted and he’s not a great skater (I think it was overrated in his draft year and he has talked to me about the need to work on it), but he’s good in a very effective kind of way. He can also play with power or play with skill, which blends to allow him to take pucks off the wall to the inside and then execute in congested areas in ways you wouldn’t necessarily expect out of a 6-foot-3 player. He’ll make a soft-area play one second, a play in tight to his body the next, and then drive out of those plays the next. At an early age, it’s also clear he has a really mature understanding of how to use his size to his advantage. He looks to dictate with his length and knows how to position himself against defenders. He’s decent on entries and will hold pucks but can also play off of his linemates. It’s not flashy but Edstrom projects as a solid third-line centre who can potentially contribute on both special teams.

This is a fantastic return considering the circumstances. We still have Saros and a cup window!

The only way this bites is if Askarov becomes an elite #1.

  20. Tadpole018

I’m sad because I really wanted a wild horizontal pad stacking goalie, but hey. At least he’s in San Jose and not in the division. And prospects, cool

  21. SnooBooks4972

I thought he said he doesn’t want to play for an AHL team? Also, pls don’t draft Russians anymore. For whatever reason, they don’t mesh with Nashville at all.

  22. ElliottMullins

Don’t want to play for us? Go pay Cali taxes on one of if not the worst team in the league. See ya!

  23. Square_Dimension5648

It says conditional first round pick. What’s the condition?

  24. AlsoCommiePuddin

Trotsy should have bargained harder for the SJS pick.
