  1. Two players making about 33% of the cap onece Conner resigns , I see a cupless future

  2. The 3:44 mark of the video features a claim by the Legorocks99 YouTube man of a supposed need for the Oilers to avoid repeating what then-Leaf GM Kyle Dubas had done in the late 2010s via the signings of AM34, Marner and Tavares to octuple-digit per-season cap hits. Those Leafs, during Dubas’s GM tenure (2018 off-season to May 2023), only won a single playoff series: during what would end up being his final season in that position for that team.

The Oilers remain in Cup-or-bust mode with, among players in their 30s or 40s:
    – on their NHL roster:
    — 10 of 13 forwards
    — 4 of 7 d-men although effective next February, Darnell Nurse will become the fifth, with his having been born in that 1995 month
    — 1 of 2 goalies
    – otherwise under contract, by contrast, just:
    — 1 of 12 forwards
    — 1 of 7 d-men
    — 1 of 3 goalies

Among Canada’s other NHL teams account, among players in their 30s or older, under contract to the:
    – Canucks: six of 23 at the NHL level but none of the remaining 24 otherwise under contract (OUC)
    – Flames: seven of 23 at the NHL level but just one of the remaining 22 OUC
    – Jets: eight of 23 at the NHL level but just two of the remaining 21 OUC
    – Leafs: eight of 21 at the NHL level but just two of the remaining 25 OUC
    – Sens: six of 21 at the NHL level but none of 27 OUC
    – Habs: 4 of 25 at the NHL level but none of 19 OUC

When it comes to Canadian NHL team rosters so many of whose players are getting up there in age, the Oilers no doubt take the icing on the cake. The Oilers have just one less player under contract of the NHL level (15) than, combined, the Leafs and Sens have in total under contract among players in their 30s or older.

That no existing Western Conference team, since the Dallas Stars in the 1990s, has made consecutive Stanley Cup final appearances (with the last team in that conference to have done so having been the Red Wings before, several seasons later, the NHL would transfer them to the Eastern Conference) is already working against the Oilers. The opportunity no doubt is there for the Oilers to become the first Western Conference team, since those Wings, to make repeat Cup final appearances, particularly with at best 3 non-Oiler teams I see capable of winning one or more 2025 playoff series (Canucks, Golden Knights and Kraken).

  3. Unless Myers shits the bed again, Vancouver has Zero inefficient contracts. the only argument can be for Peterson but he's only been mediocre for half a season and a post season. He's been great before that

  4. this guy and mcdavid took every cent, no one talks about that, the leafs guys get trashed for it, mcdavid took 12.5 six years ago, no discounts, squeezed every penny
