  1. Yzerman's in the hot seat now. If we miss the playoffs this time after coming up 1 point short previously, there's going to be some heavy fire. We know the defense and goaltending is what's dragging them down so these new additions better fix it.

  2. I said I wouldn't worry about Seider and Raymond signing until September. Let's just say at this point I'm concerned.

The Wings are my favorite team, but the Atlantic is stacked with great teams. I think having us finishing 3rd is optimistic. 1st or 2nd I'd love to see but it seems like wishful thinking to me. I predict we'll make the playoffs in the 1st wildcard slot.

  3. Thank you being one of the few non locals that actual covers the wings in a fair fashion.

  4. Anything short of the Playoffs this season deserves pink slips. As a Wings fan, I am getting concerned the front office is turning into a country club of friends

  5. Their defense core has Chiarot, Petry, Edvinsson, Maatta and Gustafssson. Their goalies are below average (Lyon, Talbot)

    They will finish bottom 10.

  6. Wow 5 x Blackhawks on this team. Of the 3 teams that haven't made th playoffs in awhile, I think it will be Buffalo that makes it this season. Detroit needs to play defense better and I dont see them having that on the backend.

  7. The more I see it, the more I wish I got that jersey… sure I could still find it but not as cheap as the chicago RR

  8. The Red Wings seem like the prime candidate for getting over the playoff line this year, assuming no more brutal losing streaks or untimely injuries.

  9. Don't forget, Buffalo was also "only one point" away from the playoffs in 2022-23, but then dropped off the following season instead of continuing their upward trajectory. Not saying Detroit will follow suit, but just a word of caution for those Wings fans that are overly confident Detroit will be a playoff team. I was the same way last year for the Sabres, and was quickly humbled.

  10. Albert Johansson will be on the roster as he can’t be sent down without waivers anymore. Currently they have 8 Dmen on the roster.

  11. Detroit fan who voted 3 or 4 reporting in. If we were in any other division, I would expect us to make a playoff spot this year. With the division we're in though, it's too close.

  12. Don't expect the Wings to make the playoffs this season and they might even take a bit of a step back. They might take a huge step back if Larkin or Seider miss significant time during the season. Some teams have improved while the Wings don't look like they improved much. The offense should still be ok but the defense is bad and the goalies can't make up for it over a full season.

  13. Prioritizing Tarasenko and Kane over Seider and Raymond is a choice for Yzerman, I’ll give him that. If there’s no measurable improvement next year he’s got to go.

  14. I am with probably the minority in saying that I think we still trend upward in points but still miss the playoffs. Might squeeze in.

  15. I don't need playoffs, just finish in the top 16 in goals against. Stevie is building a Cup Winner not a playoff qualifier.

  16. Wings have to make the playoffs or Steve Yzerman has to start feeling the pressure from ownership and from the fans. If the trend of his teams getting better every year remains true they will because they were so close last year but they have to put it together this year. Pressure is already on Lalonde as well given the late season collapse

  17. Anybody picking them to finally make the playoffs is just plain oblivious as to how weak their blueline really is. Ottawa and Buffalo look more likely to break out of the rebuild playoff slump than Detroit.

Everyone just looks at how they came close last year and figured that they are young and that this makes an iron trend. That's not how hockey or life works, there has to be something backing that momentum, just look at how Buffalo did last season after almost getting to the playoffs the season before.

I pencil them in at 7th, they will be better than Montreal but not likely anyone else in that still tough division.

  18. I don't want to be a Debbie downer, but I don't know if playoffs are in the picture this year. Offense is there for sure, but struggling to keep the puck out of the net has been the trademark of this rebuild, and I think it got worse this summer… which is weird because a lot of the moves Stevie has made looked awesome on paper, like Holl, Matta, Ghost, Stetcher, Ned, Husso, Riemer, Bernier, etc., but they just haven't ended up working out in practice for some reason, whether it be chemistry or coaching or what.
Ghost and Wallman were the most defensively sound guys on the blue line last year and they're both gone. Unless Larkin, Cat, Kaner, Vlad, and Copp can outscore the weakness in the defense then I just don't see it happening.
I felt really good last year, especially when Kane signed mid-season and the Wings were SOOOO close… this year I don't have that same optimism when I see the off-season moves. Hopefully I'm wrong, I miss being excited for my Wings in April.
Edit: I also think it's baffling that any time Larkin gets injured that the team absolutely falls apart. With guys like Perron, Kaner, Compher, Cat, Chairot, Ghost, and so many other solid leadership vets, that the moment your captain goes down that the whole tent collapses.

  19. Everyone is assuming Tarasenko automatically gets the 2nd line spot, but I'd rather see Berggren and Kane bouncing their hockey IQs off each other. Tarasenko is big, Rasmussen is big. I like the idea of that, maybe it will make our 3rd line a little more dangerous offensively and help Copp put up some more points.

And no, I have no problem with Chiarot and Seider. Ben Chiarot is a good hockey player despite what the average person might say, and he and Seider looked good when they were put back together late last season. Also, you missed Albert Johansson, who is in a similar position as Berggren. No longer waiver exempt, and he's good enough that he won't clear. He'll be with the team, and he played on Edvinsson's right side a lot in GR. I'd like to see that given a chance.

  20. In a world where our top 6 has Chiarot and Petry in it, the Wings are not looking so hot. I can't afford myself to let them think they will make the playoffs, but if they do it would be a welcome and long time coming reward for my continued Fandom during the past rough 9 years

  21. Danielson was missed for rookie watch, i think he is number one for sure. I think Yzerman continues to road block prospects, with too many vets signed. I think it was a huge mistake signing so many vets last year, when a rebuilding team didnt have any prospects in the lineup. I think the Yzerman free pass from the fan base is soon to be over, if u dont see this team have more young players in the lineup and no playoffs. Im not in camp of shitting on Yzerman for not making the playoffs, but the Holland treatment of the roster of over ripening prospects i will. Also, they 8 d-man on the active roster and at least 3 goalies. Have no idea how that washes out for the regular season.

  22. Detroit may very well be the most interesting team in the league to watch this season. All the trends say they should be a playoff team and my gut feeling says they could have a really strong season, the problem is the top 4 in the Atlantic (Toronto, Boston, Tampa & Florida) are all stacked and the team they lost the 2nd wildcard to I feel got significantly better in Washington.

I feel like they cut the Islanders out and land the 2nd wildcard this year in all likelihood but their future should be bright in the next 2-3 years. I still think they need to trade Husso for some depth scoring once/if they sign raymond and seider

  23. 2nd straight Detroit video that Shannon completely misses Albert Johansson on the roster for next year, that Stevie Y said multiple times that he is counting on, and instead talking about William Wallinder who is all but certain destined for Grand Rapids this year… Other then that, good takes🫡

  24. That'll be a hard fought between wings and caps next year. Devils gonna bounce back so it'll still be very hard for wings to sneak in

  25. As a wings fan I’m expecting a similar year to last where we’re fighting for a wild card spot. The future looks bright but our defense wasn’t improved as much as I hoped. Looking for some young guns to step up(Edvinson, Johansson, Walinder). Petry is not a top 4 defenseman on a playoff team.
