Let’s Talk About Vladimir Tarasenko

He was one of the best goal scorers in the NHL, but has seen his career derailed by shoulder injuries. Can he rediscover his goal scoring touch upon his return?

  1. You can say it's not criticism but it is for me. As a blues fan he's infuriating. When he decides to put in the effort he's unstoppable, but he doesn't consistently do that. He is a player that disappears during games and you only get a handful of solid shifts from him. He can absolutely be elite and he says he wants it, but his effort every shift doesn't come close to showing it.

  2. i am a huge fan of tarasenko. but im very concerned that hes had 3 surgeries on his left shoulder. he has played thru tremendous pain and problems. i dont know that he can ever be the same again. im a huge blues fan and hes been one of the most exciting players to watch since oh say pavol demitra or even brett hull, but he looked bad during the playoffs this past summer in the bubble when he was playing and worse yet you could tell he was in definite pain. if he re injures the shoulder again im sure his career is over. maybe he becomes a playmaker instead of a sniper. i dont know for certain. one thing i do know is i hope he does whatever he needs to do for his health. he has a family to consider. i mean hes still in his prime. but thats 3 shoulder surgeries in 3 years or less. what will his shoulder be like at age 40? who knows.

  3. Have a soft spot for Tarasenko ever since I saw him play in KHL for Novosibirsk in Latvia, against Dinamo Riga, back in 2010. As an 18 year old, he dominated the game in a way I have never seen a junior do in a men's league. (For games I've watched in person, not on TV)

  4. As a life long Blues fan that shoulder really worries me. They will take it easy on him this year but next year will be make or break.

  5. Tarasenko is a Blues legend. He’s probably in my top-5 all time favorite Blues. His shooting and passing is elite, but what really made him stand out were his drives to the net. He’s lost that since the shoulder injury, but that used to be what allowed him to take over games singlehandedly. I really miss seeing him get on the outside of a defender, then muscle his way in front of him and fend off the defender’s stick to then go around the goalie. Not many guys in the game drive the net like that anymore.

  6. I really hope the Blues & Tarasenko's camp take the long-term approach. Would be a shame to prematurely end his career by rushing a return.

  7. One of Tarasenko's greatest services was talking up Panarin.
Did he get his name on the St Louis Stanley Cup?
Is being called a 'pure goal scorer' a curse?

  8. Oh man, with all those injuries it'll be very tough for him to get back to his best years. I still think he'll be a very good player, but not back to 40 goals.

  9. I really want the team to perform well and get a good lead in the first half of the season. This will help Vova to take it easy and is not rushed into playing real games.

  10. I feel like whenever St.Louis sports teams get a player with over the top skill/potential, they either die or get career ending injuries.

  11. Let me begin by saying there are many people who know more about hockey than I do. Now….on Tarasenko, injuries are the obvious thing but I think his consistency before that was due to his hearing all the talk about his shot and he bought it. He does have a really good shot but NHL goalies will shut you down if you become predictable. He has to be unpredictable. I really like him and hope he gets healthy and unpredictable on the ice.
