Can Tyson Barrie be a solution?

The Edmonton Oilers find themselves needing a right handed defensemen and they don’t grow on trees.

Former NHLers Matt Kassian and Joaquin Gage join Matt Iwanyk to examine the remaining options the Edmonton Oilers have to fill that empty spot on the back end while deliberating how dire the current situation is.

Do you think the Oilers should trade for another defensemen or should they try and give an unsigned veteran a PTO? Let us know!

  1. I like the Barrie idea. He would come at a low cost, he’s a dressing room popular guy and its a fan feel good story.

  2. Barrie / Kulak was a reasonably effective 2nd pairing, and if they'd be expected to just be playing 3rd pairing they'd likely excel. Nurse / anyone at second pair is likely to perform worse than those two numbers wise, though that's admittedly in taking more minutes against harder matchups.

  3. The Oilers have a ton of options for right side bottom pairing but I have no idea who is playing right side on the second pairing. All the players presented seem to add more options on the bottom pair rather than the second pairing. Ceci struggled on the second pairing but who slides up there now? Maybe they run 7 D and do a rotation for that spot and give 3 right shot D the 2nd and 3rd right side minutes? I don't know.

  4. Why is it that Nurse is difficult to find a pairing ? He's paid like a number 1 and plays like a 5-6 dman lol

  5. Tyson Barrie would be a good addition. There is a limit to what the Oilers can do to add extra talent for the season. Shattenkirk would be good due to his winning pedigree, but I think Tyson brings the enthusiasm to be an Oiler. It would be a good place for him to retire, and he wants a cup like every red blooded Canadian male. If they can come to an agreement on salary, I would give it a go!

  6. Oilers need someone who can cover nurse's ass well when he inevitably makes a mistake in the neutral or O-Zone and if it gets pushed back into our D-zone you need someone who can also be a shutdown player when he inevitably screws up there too.

  7. I had to mute it because you talk way too loud. I noticed a very strong lack of actual examples of what you think you are talking about.
