Penguins to be featured on national TV 17 times this year

Patrick and Hunter open the show paying tribute to Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau after they were killed in a tragic crash on Thursday night. Then they discuss how the Penguins brand is still strong as the team has 17 games on the national television schedule this upcoming year. They discuss which games they’re looking forward to and why there are so many Penguins vs. Capitals games on the national slate. Finally, do the Penguins have the best Mt. Rushmore in hockey history? The boys might not agree on this one.

  1. First off, by far the more important thing: RIP to the Gaudreau brothers, and may this incident at least lead to greater public awareness and consideration of dangerous behaviors. I'm sure some people will look right past it, and that is lamentable. But if their high-profile tragedy causes even some to change their dangerous, selfish actions, perhaps some families at least may be spared further similar loss.

Serious note aside, a gentle ribbing: Pat with the Yinzer Hipster take of picking the Oilers over the hometown guys. It's almost predictable at this point, someone's always gotta be a contrarian hereabouts. It's in the blood.

  2. I’m really sick of people in this world like there’s Uber,or you can just walk home It’s ridiculous. Rest in peace Johnny hockey gone too soon!!!😢

  3. Guys, that was absolutely well said about Johnny Gaudreau. I woke up this morning and saw this unconfirmed reports about Johnny Gaudreau and his brother and I just got sick to my stomach in hoping these reports were not true, but sadly they were.

Im just at a loss for words and feel for his family, friends, his teammates that played with him and completely about Kevin Hayes. He should get a standing ovation opening night letting him know that we have his back here in Pittsburgh.

To me, Johnny Gaudreau reminded me a lot of Martin St. Louis he was not the biggest guy, but had a big heart and defied the odds by being a premier player in this league. On a day like today it reminds us all, never take any day for granted and like you guys said sports are entertainment yes these men get paid a lot of money and have unbelievable skills, but at the end of the day when the uniform comes off, the skates come off, they are human beings like the rest of us that have families and friends just like we do.

Thoughts are with their family, friends, the Blue Jackets and Flames organizations, Boston College University, and all their friends and former teammates.

  4. I'd love to see a Gaudreau award maybe for the most productive player under 5'10 or the most productive players picked in the 4th round or later of the draft. Would be pretty awesome to celebrate what he's done as a career underdog.

  5. The one nice thing I have to say about ABC is you could’ve woken me up out of a coma to the Tampa Bay game in April and convinced me where we’re in the eastern conference final I would’ve believed it wholeheartedly

  6. My heart absolutely breaks for his friends family and fans. The Blue jackets finally got a legit star to sign and commit to their franchise and this udder tragedy happens. 😞

  7. I still remember the goal Gaudreau scored against the Penguins in 2017 (it’s been going around on twitter today since everything happened), he skated through the entire team coming from his own zone, deked Marc Andre Fleury out of his skates, and scored one of the prettiest wrap around goals I’ve ever seen

From what everyone has said all day, he meant so much to so many people wherever he played. I wouldn’t be surprised (and I’d support it entirely) if the Flames and/or Jackets retire his number and make sure nobody will wear #13 after Johnny Hockey

What an incredible hockey player and person, gone way too soon

  8. Rest in peace Johnny and Matthew. There really are no words. I can't even imagine what the Gaudreau family is going through, apparently today was their sister's wedding day too. Everything about what happened is awful.

  9. Wonderful tribute guys. My heart is broken for their entire family. I can't imagine having to deal with this devistation when it was supposed to be such a joyful weekend. Prayers and condolences to their family and the entire hockey community
