Columbus Blue Jackets fans expressed shock and sadness after the tragic death of Johnny Gaudreau and his younger brother Matthew.
The two were bicycling when they were hit by a suspected drunk driver in New Jersey. The driver, Sean Higgins, was taken into custody. The Gaudreau brothers were killed a night before their sister’s wedding.

a loss for the entire hockey community. i can't imagine what the family is going through as they came together for a happy family event and to have this happen hours before the wedding. just unimaginable.

Penalties for drunk driving are obviously not strong enough, things like this happen every day, people who drive after consuming alcohol need to be sent to prison especially when things like this happen. OK, he was a sports star but everyday families lose members to knuckleheads who know they shouldn't be driving but still do so, prison time for those who know better. Sad story but unfortunately not the last story like this we will hear about. 20 years for each death this guy caused, no parole.

maximum sentence for two counts of "death by auto," in state of new jersey = 20 years
maximum sentence for drunk driving, in state of new jersey = 12 hours
apparently, killing people with a car, in new jersey, isn't murder…
