Remembering Johnny Gaudreau, Montréal Canadiens free agent targets, Norlinder update, Draisaitl deal

On today’s episode of Locked On Montréal Canadiens, we begin by remembering Johnny Gaudreau and what he meant to the NHL in the wake of the tragic accident that took his life and that of his brother, Matthew Gaudreau. In our second segment, we discuss Mattias Norlinder’s reported rejection of an offer from the Montréal Canadiens, and the end of the Norlinder era that wasn’t. Finally we talk about Leon Draisaitl’s new contract, what it does to the NHL market as a whole, and what prize NHL free agents the Habs could pursue next year.

  1. I wouldn't put my hopes up to high to make the playoffs as a wild card this year. Problem is our division is very tough. I would like to see it but I wouldn't be devastated if we didn't. And bring Crosby over if we don't sell the farm, say a 2 year contract.

  2. It's crazy to see a player averaging 110 points a season get 14 million when the Habs are paying Suzuki 7.8 million when he potemtially.can be a 90 point player. My oh my what 20 points cost!!

  3. McDavid will get paid 17 million. Drai 14 million. Nurse 9 million. Bouchard 9.5 million. That will be almost 50 million between 4 players. Thatbwill leave roughly 40 to 42 million for 19 other players! Thats an average of 2 million per player… LOL

  4. Wishful thinking that the team will improve enough to make the playoffs. Not enough pieces in place playing at a playoff calibre level. Going to be another learning year in my opinion. So we will not be in contention for another top 6 pick. We likely will finish between 22 and 24. Need a few more years for Demidov, Hutson, Roy, Mailloux, Guhle, Reinbacher, Dach, Hage, Fowler, Beck, Kapanen and others to be solid in their roles. I would love to be wrong and see them in the wild card race. I think that will happen in the future but just not this year. Habs need to find 50+ goals and give up 60 to 70 less goals to move into serious playoff contender status. Lots of work to do.
