[Pagnotta] Contract negotiations between Detroit & RFA Lucas Raymond have picked up, and I’m told the two sides are focusing on a long-term deal. Still work to be done, they’re not there yet, but talks are ongoing.

Yes it’s not one of the top tier insiders, but this is a positive development and as such I choose to believe it.
I think we all knew this from the start. Unless for some reason the red wings didn’t want to do long term and had to change their minds but most of us in here have been like both of them gotta get locked up long term

Yes, the bar is that low for updates coming out of the Red wings contract negotiation efforts, but it’s a bar nonetheless.
I choose to believe Pagnotta when it’s good news and ignore him when it isn’t.

I just don’t see any way he goes anywhere unless it was for a blockbuster trade. He seems to be good friends with the core I have no doubt they sign him (hopefully long term)

23 is asking 8 years at $8M because he wants to get paid as if he played the entire time like he did in the last 10 games. Yzerman is saying… but you didn’t and if you wanna get paid $8M, then you need to be more consistent. So we will pay you 6 years at $6M.
So they will settle on a short term deal of 3 years at $6M and allow Luke to prove himself and renegotiate

There was really no reason to be afraid here. The good news here is that we’re still trying to get him long term and that seems to be what he wants too.
I’m confident it gets done before the start of camp.
