Mikko Rantanen? I don't see it. He will want a top 6 spot. We also have Demidov coming in next year. We have no top 6 spots available. You can say, players need to earn their spots. But Kent Hughes has stated many times now that he will not block a young player getting onto the roster. Demidov is a top 6 player. Rantanen would be a mistake. Plus I don't think we have the cap space for him. We have a lot of salary leaving the team next year but we have Slafkovsky and Ghule's contract that will need to take their place. And that is 13.1 million plus we still have Price's 10.5 contract on the books.
I really don't see it.
Colorado is interested in Marner.. they might let go of Rantanen for Marner.. as crazy as that sounds
Hopefully, Demidov won't take any of Kuznetsoz bad habits.
Actually thats not right Josh. Demidov did look good in that game but if anything Kuznetsov held him back by being super slow.
Rantanen will command a salary of what? 11-12 millions? Don't know if we can afford that but hey! you never know.

I dont see us signing Rantanen yet. But I will say. I believe all of the Laine Gally Anderson contracts expire in 2 seasons. That means in 2 seasons. We will have 21 million in cap space. We could get 2 superstars with that money.

Fyi…. Giroux went to ottawa because he grew up playing hockey there. Its his hometown team…..so i doubt he leaves. (He was actually born in a small town called hearst though)
Also, if you arent aware – zegras has told anaheims management that if they trade him…..his number 1 spot he wants to goto is NY. Hes from Connecticut,NY. Grew up rooting for the rangers and is apparently really good friends with kreider.

If there is ANY educated wish for a trade we should be hyping ourselves up this early for next offseason.. it should be for Noah Dobson. If he doesn’t signe an extension, he can just take a 1y at qualifying offer and go UFA. He’s a young D but Isles are in compete now mode with Horvat and Barzal.. if we can extend either Matheson and/or Laine for a singe and trade or some kinda package for the isles to compete with right away then that could be a hockey trade and a half for both teams. But as a Finnish hockey fan who has followed both Rantanen and Laine since 2016, Habs have the better player. Laine is better with and without the puck, he's better both ways.
