An “update” on the Sidney Crosby extension talks with the Penguins…

On Friday, we got a slight update to what’s going on with Sidney Crosby’s extension. Hunter and Patrick discuss Elliotte Friedman’s report on 32 Thoughts and how it appears that the ball is in Crosby’s court and the Penguins are waiting to hear back. They give their thoughts on whether this will get announced before the NHL Media Tour next week or before training camp before switching things to U.S. Hockey Hall of Famers Kevin Stevens and Matt Cullen. They wax poetic about them and how great they were for the Penguins in their own ways before finishing the show with a catch-up on Matt Grzelcyk.

  1. Sidney Crosby has nothing left to prove. He's won three Stanley Cups, two Olympic Gold Medals, a World Cup Gold Medal, two Hart Trophies, two Con Symthe Trophies, Rocket Richard Trophy, a Ted Lindsay Award winner. Winning another cup isn't going to change his legacy. He's, in my opinion, a first ballot hall of famer, regardless if he wins another cup or not.

  2. When Jim Rutherford signed Matt Cullen late in the 2015 offseason, I remember telling my dad this was such a good signing and important depth player. He was skeptical, but after he saw what Cullen brought to this team, he came to me and said I was right.

Even in game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final against Nashville in 2017, Cullen was getting a lot of ice time when in crucial situations. That shows you how much Sullivan trusted Matt Cullen to place him on the ice in critical situations in Game 6. He led the forwards in ice time in that game 6, if that doesn't show your coach trusts you, I don't know what will.

  3. It would be a terrible day in Pittsburgh if Crosby got traded or signed with another team. It would be an understandable decision, but it would be really hard to swallow. The big 3 should retire Pens.

  4. I love Kevin Stevens. The ultimate POWER FORWARD!!! Just a beast with the puck. He's my second favorite just behind Mario. What an amazing guy and player. Crosby will sign. I'm not concerned at all.

  5. Only other team I'd like to see 87 play for are the Habs. I believe he'll sign and retire a Penguin 🐧

  6. I remember yelling at the screen multiple times about Graves and his mistakes, but I feel like I have more hope for him than most people too. I think he is going to find his way this year if they shelter him long enough to get his confidence back and his game back in general. Having a GM call you out has to hurt and I would guess he responds. If he doesn't this year then…. yeah.

  7. If you guys think he's staying why are you platforming what other people think? They can take care of that themselves, I promise you. Have more conviction in what you believe

  8. It has to be at least a little tempting for Sid to ponder a move to say, the Avs for example. But I think he most likely ends up a career Penguin, just as he has said he wants to be.

  9. Yeah if Dubas put multiple offers on the table as reported then the ball is In Crosby's court I guess. It seems like he's trying to decide how much longer he wants to keep playing, and once he decides he'll sign one of the offers. That's what it seems like to me.

  10. If there is any reflection going on in Crosby's mind it's how long he wants to continue playing. Not whether he's willing to tarnish his legacy for a slightly better chance at winning a 4th cup. It's weasely that he's not even allowed one summer to ruminate and gather all the facts without people speculating whether he's that kind of person

  11. For the greater good of the Penguins he should take 1 year to improve the stocks of up coming talent. With Hagens Martone and Misa ready to make the NHL jump after the draft, he could be back in town by training camp 2025. If he gets a cup great, if they lose, Pittsburgh can be playoff ready after the Olympics. His career is almost over. Now is his chance to write history 1 more time. Toronto is a better fit than Colorado. He is an eastern conference specialist. Playing with Matthews before Italy would illustrate the greatness of hockey. Good luck, Penguins. Robertson would be a perfect fit for your top 6. 🍇

  12. all i could say longer there no new for sid the more its gonna get into trade rumors and staff

  13. like there been update that what if sid dont sign but get traded to deadline to playoff then he get sign with pens in offseason

  14. It actually makes sense for Dubas to throw multiple offers out there and see what he feels best suits his future and I would also not be surprised to see Sid take 34.8M for 3 years but paid out over 4 for an AAV of 8.7M

  15. I remember that game when KS got the old face pant into the ice, scary and ugly, Ludvigs hit last year reminded me of that, as well as when the ref got KOd last season in the TB game, so glad KS was able to get his life back together many dont (Probert, Kordic, Boogard, Belak, etc).

  16. also i feel this Crosby problem is almost tom brady thing problem why tom brady see his team was not becomeinggood he went to anthoer team that had playoff chance and win

  17. Grzelcyk is an upgrade over po joseph. My only concern with Grzelcyk is his size. He's a small dman. Other then st ivany, the pens dont have a dman that can clear the net front. I think graves could do it too if he commits to being physical with his big frame. I like the Grzelcyk signing overall and hope he can be a steady dman this season. Nobody talks about stevens as a penguins great, but they should. That 3 year run 91,92 and 93 are the greatest teams in penguins history. Obviously its easier to do with no salary cap but still impressive. Loved matt cullen. Brought that veteran leadership that every team needs. They were soo strong down the middle with crosby, malkin, bonino and cullen. Bonino i still think was the difference maker for those 2 cup runs. He blocked almost every shot, great penalty killer and scored the most timely goals

  18. I like SDPN but they hate the pens cause they're leaf fans that are still butt hurt over Dubas leaving, especially the ginger guy

  19. I’m an Ovechkin fan, but Crosby is two years younger, which is a lot when you’re in your late 30’s. Crosby also seems more determined to always try to improve which is no matter age crucial. All the way back in 2005 I thought to myself. I think this guy will play 25 NHL seasons. That will obviously happen it seems these days. I just hope Ovechkin finds that inner drive to continue as well. If he finds the. Motivation he will be able, if not he will be gone in two years.
