  1. Habs didn’t trade for Askarov because the asking price was Beck.

Not because Habs goaltending is at contender level.

I agree Monty / Primeau should hold the fort but don’t tell me

    Monty – Askarov

    Or

    Swayman – Primeau

    Wouldn’t be better

  2. Don’t think Dach was allowed play last season as I recall a article about the surgeon refusing surgery if the Habs were thinking of bringing him back last season 🤔

  3. I’m not concerned about Demidov getting benched if that’s even what it was. We have to remember how little Slaf played his first year. He was getting benched a lot by MSL. He will be fine. Just hope it’s not because of the hit he took.

  4. I disagree with Jessie about the goaltending. Rumors are Habs were in the running for Askarov and it’s not like they weren’t trying g to trade for him. Also rumours they are still shopping for guys like Knight and Levi. Time will tell

  5. So a few things to consider are:

    1. I think the defense should be better.
    2. The powerplay should be better with the additions of Laine and Hutson.
    3. Primeau should be better now that he'll be a regular backup vs. being in a 3 goalie rotation.
    4. We lost the most 1 goal games in the NHL last year, with all these additions plus Dach we should be able to turn one third of those results around.

These items SHOULD bring us very close to the playoffs.

Things against us would be injuries and defense not improving. I also think we need to be better than the Caps AND the Isles, which I think is doable. The reason why I feel we need to be better than just the Caps is that the Devils should be much better with Markstrom.

  6. There is no need to overreact to Demidov being benched. He played circa 10 mins which isn't too bad given it is only his 3rd game in the KHL. I recall Habs teams of the '70s when players were benched or watched games from the press box and it did them no harm. IMO too much pressure is being put on our young prospects so lets give them time to develop.

Fans are becoming overly excited due to podcasters and hype by some journalists. I suggest patience. There will be an influx of young players after next season given 5 UFAs could leave so more time will be needed to see results given more young prospects will join the team.

The pipeline was destroyed by previous management so patience is necessary. In 2-3 years management will have built an very competitive team.

  7. Trade Matheson for a speedy young big PWF like a Holloway or a younger Joshua,

    Trade Barron + for Letang

2 Stanley cup veterans on D

Keep Savard until Reinbacher is ready to play along side Hutson

    Ghule – Letang (3yrs left)
    Hutson – Savard
    Wifi – Mailloux

    Depth on D for injury

    Strubble LD/RD
    Reinbacher RD
    Trudeau LD
    Engstrom LD/RD

  8. Demidov got benched in his 3rd KHL game at 18 😱 Hughes work the phones and find a trading partner before his value implodes.

  9. 13-14-20 line 1
    + 15 on PP1

    92-77-Roy line 2
    + 11 on PP2

    15-28-11 line 3
    17-72-40 line 4

Balance speed in bottom 6 Newhook on 3rd, Andy on 4th

Roy playmaking and good 2 way with Dach / Laine

Pp units are the 5v5 trios with

    Newhook on PP 1 bumper
    Gallagher on PP2 net front

    DVO – Anderson PK 1
    Evans – Armia PK 2

Suzuki – Slaf PK 3 ( end of PK )

  10. I loved Monahan in Montreal

I’m happy he got a good contract.

I can’t speak for Monahan but I imagine he would rather still be looking for a contract and still have his friend Johnny than have all the money in the world…

Family and friends of Johnny were robbed of a great person.

But I don’t think there is a hockey player more devastated in the NHL than Monahan, having signed in Columbus for one of the biggest reasons being, to play alongside his good friend and ex-teammate.

I was looking forward to that reunion and would have cheered them both on.

I imagine it will be a tough season in Columbus.

I hope Monahan can rebound there and maybe he can help the team through the grieving process.

  11. To be fair, I would refuse a trade to Minasota and any other Democrats state. I would only accept Montreal because of the team, I would not want to be in that province otherwise and when the season ends I'd be out ASAP 'till next year.

  12. Not a great start for demidov people though he was nhl ready superstar 1 A in 3 games so far and benched in khl which is not even close to nhl caliber
He is still young has lots of time to grow but no he aint ready yet stop the amazing start hype

  13. If they play well, Cole, Dach, Newhouse, Laine…all need to make a solid step forward, then they could push for a wild card spot. Only Suzi and Slav are playing up to the expectation for their career stage. The D all need to progress.
