  1. Thanks for the update Mike!
Frankly…I'm a bit surprised. I thought Robertson would end up on a team where he'd be getting regular ice time. Well….we'll see if he gets regular play time….if not….he'll probably be gone next year.
You are right…..Berube likes a big, hardhitting team and Robertson doesn't quite fit that description.

  2. I'd rather they just trade him, but it's a low risk deal, might as well see if he can actually do anything useful. Leafs looked at what's available on the LW UFA market, and quickly found that the pickings are pretty slim to put it mildly.

  3. I do not foresee a trade of Nick Robertson unless the team has a catastrophic collapse during the season and has to sell off assets

  4. Surprised Jarnkrok keeps popping up as a name. He is signed to a good contract and is a versatile forward.
Heā€™s capable of playing center and the Leafs need to try him out as 3c this training camp to see if there is something there

  5. Iā€™d say donā€™t even bother with hakanpaa and go after shattenkirt for a low cap hit for the year if they do and if they can trade liligren I donā€™t hate liligren but 3m for him is a yikes

  6. You said that the Leafs wanted to avoid Robertson being given an offer sheet because heā€™s an RFA. If I were Leafs management I would want that to happen – a player who wants to leave and is not even close to being a Berube-type player and the Leafs get a draft choice in return. They wouldnā€™t get any better in a trade, so why not an offer sheet?

  7. The Leafs shouldā€™ve traded him or signed him to more term as next year he now gets arbitration rights and unless he literally does nothing will get a raise and if he explodes a team with picks will threaten an offer sheet and theyā€™ll have to trade him from a weaker bargaining position to other teams or be forced to negotiate with whomever would offer sheet the player.

Regardless at least this drama is over as too many times RFAā€™s are taking things to extremes with the organization no matter who is in charge.
