Figueroa vs Castro FULL FIGHT: July 9, 2022 | PBC on Showtime

Figueroa vs Castro FULL FIGHT: July 9, 2022 | PBC on Showtime

Hard-hitting former world champion Brandon “The Heartbreaker” Figueroa (23-1-1, 18 KOs) returned to the win column with a dominant sixth round TKO of Carlos Castro (27-2, 12 KOs) in their WBC Featherweight Title Eliminator.

Competing in his first fight at featherweight, and first action since dropping a narrow decision in a 2021 Fight of the Year against Stephen Fulton Jr., Figueroa showed off his power at 126 pounds by dropping Castro midway through round three. Using his customary bruising come-forward style, Figueroa landed a looping overhand left that hurt Castro and eventually sent him to the mat on his follow-up.

“I know Carlos Casto is a crafty fighter,” said Figueroa. “I had to be patient. I knew how to put the pressure on him, after the barrage of punches, I got tired and had to step back. I knew he was hurt. and I had him, and I had to put more pressure on him. I caught him clean with a good looping left hand and I had him, I just put punches together and I dropped him.”

A veteran who was also debuting at featherweight, Castro was able to use his ring IQ to weather the early storm from Figueroa. His short hooks on the inside and hard uppercuts kept Figueroa from overwhelming him in the third round and helped carry him through the early rounds.

Despite taking that return fire, Figueroa was undeterred and continued to stick to his game plan and bring the fight to Castro. In round six, Figueroa broke through again with a series of shots, including a violent, short right hook that stunned Castro.

“Carlos Castro has a lot of heart, he’s a proven fighter in the ring and I knew it would be hard to get him out of there,” said Figueroa. “I hurt him, I was waiting for that shot to the body, once I caught him clean, I knew he was hurt. I put my punches together again.”

Figueroa took advantage of the moment and unleashed a relentless attack on the ropes that went unanswered and forced referee Mark Nelson to jump in and end the bout 2:11 into the frame (watch highlight HERE).

“I’m pretty proud of myself,” said Figueroa. “I know there’s a lot of work ahead of me, especially if I fight the winner of the main event. I have to study my fight and get back to the gym.”

  2. I like Brandon I really do but buddy has to start fighting guys his own size & he needs to work on his defense because all this bully fighting is how his brothers career was cut short because when his brother Brandon started fighting guys his size he became a punching bag

That was a bad stoppage but they did it to preserve Brandon if you’ve ever boxed b4 you saw what was starting to happen Castro was lighting Brandon up with his back against the rope then proceed to light him up walking Brandon back and the ref saw it as soon as Brandon released a combo he jumped in to keep Brandon in the win column… I like Brandon as a kid no doubt but there’s a reason he’s hella inactive the match makers have to be very selective…

  3. God doesn’t want anybody in hell because He loves us, but you must understand why we deserve hell and why those who refuse to live under His authority will go there. He gave us the law (Ten Commandments) not to make us righteous, but rather to show us our sin (Romans 3:20). We’re not sinners because we sin, but rather we sin because we’re sinners. Sin is the nature of our flesh that we are born with due to the sin of Adam in the garden. For someone to be justified before God they have to be sinless. We’ve all sinned (Romans 3:23), and the the law demands death for those who sin (Romans 6:23). God is righteous, so He must punish our sin, which is what He did through His Son Jesus Christ on the cross. Jesus is Holy and sinless, yet He received our sin when He died on the cross, so that we can be righteous before God (2 Corinthians 5:21). When He died on the cross, He said “It is finished” (John 19:30), which means He paid the full price for all of your sins (past, present, and future) to be forgiven. He was buried and rose again from the dead. God will forgive anybody who puts their full trust in Jesus Christ alone for salvation. We aren’t saved based on our good deeds, but only by the grace of God (Ephesians 2:8-9). His precious blood that He shed is the only reason why we can be forgiven of our sins (Hebrews 9:22). If you confess that Jesus is Lord and believe that God raised Him from the dead, then you’ll be saved (Romans 10:9). You are born-again with the Spirit of Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17), and are not only legally justified before God, but also are accredited His righteous (Romans 4:24). Believers live for Christ now, so get to know Him through His Word. I recommend reading the book of Romans and the gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John), and watching Pastor Joseph Prince’s online sermons!

  4. Figueroa is an extremely flawed fighter, which also makes him fun to watch as a pressure fighter but you saw how he had trouble dealing with footwork and accurate counter punching due to his horrendous defense and footwork

Castro was doing well boxing, counter punching and creating angles but didn’t throw the straight right hand enough or the uppercut and let himself get caught on the ropes and drawn into Figueroa’s fight

  5. When Will Figueroa Grow The B@LLS To Fight At 135 ? Figueroa Loves Being A Weight & Height Bully , He Holds In Every Fight Just Like His Older Brother Who Is The Master At Blocking Punches With His Face

  6. フィゲロアは打たれ強いなぁ
    手数も多いしこの階級では今の所一番強いかも。井上が行くまで残ってくれ。
