  1. Reminds me of when the last time an active NHL star tragically lost his life. Pelle Lindbergh also passed in Southern New Jersey in an alcohol related incident when he crashed his vehicle.

  2. Sadly the reason Sean Monahan signed with Columbus was to be able to play with Johnny again. They were best buds.

  3. Awful news. This just goes to show how reckless drunk driving really is. Lives can be lost so quickly.

I think it’s safe to say that we all think of the Gaudreau family in what must be an unimaginable situation to find yourself in. The sport at large is with them. ❤️

  4. I maintain that this last down year was mostly a bi-product of all those missed breakaways. He was still tied for 12th in the entire NHL for 5v5 primary assists on a team that was… not very good. Gaudreau was far and away the best player on the Blue Jackets during his time there. I think he could have had a very good season next year playing on a line with Monahan and Marchenko or Chinakhov. His passing leaves a huge gaping hole in terms of the hockey player, of course, but most importantly in his family. As a Columbus fan, he was my absolute favourite player during his all too short time with the Blue Jackets, not just because he was a brilliant player, but because he seemed like a genuinely good person and a real family man. Rest in peace, Johnny and Matthew. And, above all, thank you, Johnny, for sharing your genius with us. This next season is going to be for you.

  5. I cannot believe Johnny hockey is dead. My stepdad told me yesterday morning, and I didn’t believe him. Drunk driving has become a really light offense and a lot of states. Almost like catch and release, this is unacceptable, and people have been blowing the whistle for it to be much harsher as a penalty. Don’t know what else to say, but there should be zero tolerance for drunk driving.

  6. From a Red Wings fan, to all of the Flames and Blue Jackets Fans out there I am sorry about your loss of two Incredible players Johnny and Matthew. I loved seeing those two brothers play the sport that they loved.

  7. As an isles fan, this completely changed my mind about Tavares. If he died, I would feel like absolute garbage for booing him these last few years. It’s a shame it took something terrible like this but there are some things bigger than hockey and he DID (while he was here) give everything he had for the shirt and was an excellent man off the ice as well.

  8. R.I.P. Johnny Gaudreau & Matthew Gaudreau. May God's eternal grace comfort the Gaudreau's family and friends through this difficult time and through all the years ahead.

  9. As a hockey fan and a cyclist, I can say the cycling community feels this loss. In addition to staying sober behind the wheel, there’s no need to drive aggressively. Everyone is trying to get home as quickly as possible, and aggressive driving not only doesn’t help move traffic, it increases the risk you’ll hit something.

  10. 😢😢😢😢😢😢😢.

    Just found out the news.

    I am from Scotland.

When Johnny Gaudreau was with the
Calgary Flames, he was my favourite Flames player. I am truly deeply devised buy this news.

    R.I.P Johnny & Matthew
    Gaudreau.

Never drink & drive & and never take drugs & drive ether will we are at it.

    My thoughts are with
    The Gaudreau family.

  11. jsme smrtelníci velká skoda😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

  12. I watched the funeral yesterday. Was nice to see Sean Monahan as a pall bearer for Johnny. Sad that we found out that he was expecting another child. I hope the NHL honors the two brothers this season.
