Venus Williams On Changing Her Tennis Racquet: “I Wanted More Control”

I’ve received many questions about my tennis racquet change, so I wanted to share some insight into the selection process. I hope this video helps you get started playing tennis! It is my favorite sport 😉 The tennis racquets mentioned in this video are the Wilson Blade 104, and Wilson Pro Staff.

  1. Thank you for your video Venus:) I'm late to the party, but am excited to hear that you switched to the Blade 104. (I always assumed pro players used the smaller head size.) I look forward to learning more about the next the strings part 2. -ss:)

  2. Venus, the game has changed so much (WTA) over the years (2008 – now) with players having more power and also certain tournaments play slower. What have you needed to adjust regarding playing tactics?

  3. Currently I use the Wilson Burn 100 team v2.0…I have customized it with lead tape on both sides of the frame because out of the factory it's just too light (9.4oz) to handle professional tennis, the string pattern is 16×20. I am able to create spin when I need or on the contrary power to boss my opponents around. I'm more of an aggressive baseliner, typically I will not approach the net unless I have an excellent approach shot but sometimes I'll serve n volley. For me it really depends on my confidence, the player on the other side of the net, and of course the score. If I'm up 40-Love, match-point I'd probably go for an ace out wide I remember you loved doing those Venus! GO BIG HAHA

  4. It is absolutely wonderful that a great champion like yourself would take the time to share your experiences. I have always marveled at your amazing athleticism and unwavering sportsmanship. I personally use the largest racket allowed in USTA events, the Gamma Bubba 137 square inches of pure enjoyment. It is a great racket for super senior players. I am 72 years young, and I am currently ranked 7th in the nation in my age category. Keep playing Venus, you are an inspiration to young and old alike.

    Sincerely,

    Norman Ashbrooke

  5. It’s awesome to see you do these videos. Please keep doing them. I love what you’ve done and continue to do for tennis. I recently got back to playing after a couple decades and I’m using a racket I believe you may have used at one time. The Wilson Hammer 6.2. It’s discontinued but still feels great to me.

  6. So glad you're still on court and loving the game! Always fun for us club players to get a glimpse of the thought process that goes into selecting racquets, strings, etc.
As you said, "time is a commodity". So many thanks to you for taking some of your precious time to do these videos. You're a class act and a wonderful role model!

  7. Venus your wonderful keep up your videos I love your video on your racket choice .Keep well and look after yourself Good Luck in Australia for the AO .I hope your health allows you to go all the way kind regards Fiona Clarke

  8. I’ve always heard some pros are reluctant to change racquets to the latest model. What percentage of pros would you say use the latest racquet versus those that use a former racquet with a paint job?

  9. I use a Wilson Ultra 97. I added weight to the handle and the top of the head. I "tuned" this racket 3 years ago but I can't remember the exact reason. I think I have too much power but it is somewhat tamed by the Ultra Tour 97. I just got back into playing again. I've played off and on for 28 years, more off than on lol. I am a baseline player at heart but I do enjoy mixing it up. The racket I was using before this one is the Wilson Ncode Six Two 100. That one was my favorite for years. Before this was a Head Andre Agassi Extreme XL from 1998 and still has the original unbroken strings. I also have the Wilson Ncode Six One 95 that I got off Ebay for $55. This one sounds and feels like a baseball bat and is harder to hit the sweet spot backhand.

  10. i have a head speed mp, I'm a physically strong women too, I'm looking for more control and be able to feel more my racket, drop shots , more spin

  11. Thank you Venus Williams compliment explanation characteristic technics physics-meccanic Racket Wilson.
The racket is a extension some hand is personal dependent at more element to be necessary
far-sighteness is trust a good piece of advice person confidence.
