  1. Im all for a third shot. If they have good ownership it will work. The key is getting the right ownership group right away, they cannot screw it up

  2. The Atlanta Anchors, because even though Atlanta isn't on the coast or a major port for ships maybe it will bring good luck that they will stay anchored in place in ATL this time.

  3. Shannon,

Is it a rule that former cities that have previously had a team , can they not us the same name as an old franchise? Like Seattle went with something different? For expansion teams ?

  4. Georgia Firebirds. Combines the two previous names and if they donā€™t play in Atlanta they should be called Georgia

  5. Georgia stingers. The logo should be something with a Bee on a rose and the colours can be the original Tampa Bay Buccaneers sherbet orange / peach with red. Maybe have grey as a third secondary color.

  6. Any name that's honeybee related could ruffle up feathers with Georgia Tech, although their mascot is technically a wasp (yellow jacket).

It's a similar situation to how Bill Foley wanted Vegas's name to be the Black Knights, but that drew ire from the US Military Academy (Army), so he had to settle for Golden Knights.

  7. Having lived in Connecticut and Arizona, I lost teams twice, they deserve a second chance before Atlanta gets a third.

  8. Might as well call them the Nordiques so when the third team fails to gain traction in Atlanta, Quebec City is ready.

  9. First… at least one of the two groups seems hell bent on using the Atlanta Thrashers name, if they're selected. Alpharetta might not be Atlanta per se, but if you look at a map of what is actually considered *Metro Atlanta*, you'll find that it's well within those confines. A "Georgia" name is very odd for a team that is located where the majority of the state's population lives.

Second, it really won't be a huge challenge, or at least not as much of a challenge as it's believed. I know a number of folks here who were Flames fans and Thrashers fans who are optimistic and looking forward to cheering on the third Atlanta team. What folks on the fence will want to see is committed and passionate ownership who isn't just willing to put in the time and money to make the team a success, but is also willing to grow the spot in and around all parts of metro Atlanta.

  10. If Atlanta gets a team back I'd prefer they go back with Thrashers. State bird, you also give a nod to the fans who had been missing the Thrashers too.
