F*ck Your Team: Why I Hate the 2024-2025 Detroit Red Wings | NHL Season Preview

A lot of people are fans of the Detroit Red Wings. I am kind of one of them. I’m going through the entire Wings organization – from the roster to the coaches to the offseason acquisition – and giving my prediction for how this team will fare this year.

  1. Losing David Perron will bite them in the ass even if they make it into the playoffs. Goaltending could be fixed if Alex Lyon is finally used properly for the first time in his career and whoever is 2nd or 1a/b among the 5 other options should do.

Detroit absolutely need to add at least one top pairing defenseman, idk how, but that’s clearly what’s missing the most in the depth chart.

  2. Bruh Larkin can easily hit 80 points. It’s just he gets injured too much. 69 points in 68 games is over 80 points. With an improving Raymond as he gets older each year and debrincat getting his shooting percentage back up to at least his career average, that top line should be exciting. Seider is legit. He is being asked to perform a task that is impossible and that no other defenceman in the league was given last year. Statistically nobody was even remotely close to having the task as impossible as seider. Not even Mario Ferraro from the poverty sharks came close to the difficulty of minutes. Not to mention his 1 pairing guy is Ben fucking chiarot. Edvinsson has a lot of potential but again his partner being Petry is a sore to the human eye. Only have to deal with him for one more year. Goaltending is mid. Do I expect playoffs this year no. Net year I expect a big blue line turnover. Petry and Matta will be gone and will give us the room for a quality top 4 dman next year. I see the wings finishing 6th in the Atlantic.

  3. I was on board with everything until… "closer to bottom 5 in the league than playoffs". They might be a fringe playoff team; no argument on they are somewhere between 15th and 17th in the league points wise by season end but not 24th+. You realize that's what closer to bottom 5 than playoffs would mean.
    Columbus
    San Jose
    Anaheim
    Chicago
Montreal (not by skill but by virtue of being in the Atlantic)
    those are bottom 5.

  4. The one thing you overlooked was the fact that the wings had the most players with 10+ goals I can’t quite recall the if it was 13 or 14 players. Which in turn means every line produce. Can’t wait for this video to not age well! Will be back here end of April rooting for the wings in the post season and laughing at your video 😅

Seider is legit and has a tough commitment to shut down. I criticize MO for sometimes standing still and looking lost on the ice is my small criticism. It's about criticism of him and not his partner or three forwards.

Forwards, RW has no superstar and will take a long time before they get one via the draft. The only solution is via a future trade or the open market for the next 4 years. RW has drafted well according to team needs, take the best player. Beyond the obvious, there is no youth in their system who is double. This increases the odds that one of them will become something, stil a lot of "if" and "but" needs to happen.

Defense lacks a top 4 (L), could be Edvinsson unfortunately for him he can't be a "rookie" in his rookie year. The demands that he should take a bigger step and responsibility than others is sick to imagine when Edvinsson is only 21 years old, in his rookie year.

Edvinsson made Petry look better than he really is, however, not a good solution for an imagined second pair. Petry's level is at best third pair and I'd rather see Maatta given that time. Petry & Holl are my two odd mens out as I'd rather play younger ones who learn from their mistakes than older washup vets.

It gives us Erik Gustafsson, Albert Johansson and William Wallinder to see where they slot into. Both Albert and William will surprise many fans, me as a Swede not so much.

As a Swede, Erik Gustafsson who? Ooo that one, he who has been in the league for many years and never found a home(jk). Erik is intended to strengthen our defense, is probably given PP time and "can" become MO's partner if the chemistry with Ben is stil bad. Are RW Erik Gustafsson´s new home, no he just here for a short time. RW is a team that allows a lot of shots to be fired. RW is on paper marginally better defensively with Erik this year than in previous years. Both Albert & William have a good chance of out-competing Petry, Holl & Maatta and I expect them both to do so. RW could get one of the league's most expensive press stands this year.

Goalkeepers, I don't see how they will succeed this year that was not done last year with (3). There is 4th on paper but one shell goes to GR. None of the intended three (Alex, Husso and Talbot) will be able to play 60 games. RW is a team that allows a lot of shots to be fired, RW is on paper marginally better defensively with Erik this year than in previous years.

Alex played 44 games last year and got burned out which is a tradition in RW to do. Ned (59), Husso (56) and Alex (44). What these three have in common is that earlier in their careers they played ~ 15-20 games at most. Husso is a statistical anomaly, as he played 40 games in the 21/22 season for the Blues.

Playoff time – No RW will miss it this year by a bigger margin than last time. Will take a step back for the first time since S.Y became GM and that's a good thing. They have 4 years to build a solid foundation around Larks, Raz and MO to reach the play off by then.

So 4 years of retooling where we will see some youngsters take a place in the lineup or that RW is more active on the market going after bigger names and some "superstar" tier.

  6. Your conclusion is the exact same conclusion people had last year. "The sabres are so much better, the Canadiens are getting better, the Senators are getting better!" as they all crawled their way to the bottom of the division. You wanna talk about a drain on the Original Six, talk about being completely void of Stanley Cups for 57 years lmao.

  7. Only defenseman to get 200 blocked shots and 200 hits in a season in 15 years and hes not as good as Wings fans think… lol
