Winnipeg Jets Preseason Hockey Gets A Bit (Minnesota) Wild

Saturday saw the Winnipeg Jets open their preseason account with a 5-2 defeat at the hands of the Minnesota Wild, but was the loss as bad as the scoreline looks? How did top prospects like Chibrikov and Lambert fare? Are the special teams looking any better than they did last season? What can we actually take away from relatively meaningless scrimmage hockey? Should we be a bit nervous about the back-up position behind Hellebuyck?

  1. Wait what?! It's NHL preseason already? I thought NHL preseason starts around the same time as the NBA preseason which is around late October? Did the NHL change it recently or something? I could've sworn it was always around late October like the NBA? Extremely bad decision if they did that because you have the same time College Football, The NFL, MLB Playoffs & The Premier League is kicking off. I love our team through and through, but having their season start around the same time College Football and Premier League is kicking off is gonna be extremely difficult, but I'll try to make it work somehow some way. As I mentioned here before, I'm originally a College Football & Premier League fan before my wife got me into hockey, but her & I aren't even thinking about Hockey and the Jets right now because of everything that's going on rn. I'm in College Football & Premier League mode rn and She's in MLB playoff & WNBA playoff mode rn. Again, I absolutely love our team, it's just extremely bad timing for hockey rn with everything going on rn in sports.

  2. The game was in itself pretty interesting, because so many young talents were on the ice. Kahkonen was a disaster which really shocked me, because it makes Helly's health and performance even more crucial for a successful season, although I have to admit that Comrey looked somewhat solid in Edmonton. Lambert seemed a bit nervous, he had some pucks but it took him pretty long until he produced some chances. But he is a great skater, that's for sure. I liked Chibrikov, probably the best prospect on the ice. Barlow and Yager weren't bad, but there is room for improvement. I am not sure about Salomonsson, generally the defence seemed a bit chaotic, especially in the middle, which always made the Wild dangerous. I agree on Fleury. The fourth line wasn't bad, Shaw had some good shifts. All in all a promising performance in spite of the result.
