No matter what, I hope Oilers don't pull a Vegas/Tampa and keep Kane on LTIR until game 1 of playoffs. Because that is scummy and winning using scummy tactics and loopholes makes it meaningless. However, should his recovery take some sort of a setback and be naturally pushed into the playoffs, that would be of great help to the team. WIth Kane on LTIR, they would now have about 6 million to spend, hopefully on a top 4 defenseman. If they could make another Ekholm-esque addition during the season without losing important roster players, good luck stopping them.
