The New Jersey Devils lost their 4th preseason game, losing 5-1 to the New York Islanders.
Playing an NHL roster tonight, the NJ Devils looked out of sorts.
Jack Hughes did not play.
Is the injury cloud from last season still hovering over this Devils team?

Defense asleep again. Never a fan of Allen. While he played decent down the stretch last season, Allen in reality has been washed for years now.
I know its preseason but the time for excuses is running low.
As per Jack Hughes, I was at the Caps game. Jack midgame crumpled to the ice & limped off. It did not look good at all. Jack to his credit, did come back to score the goal.
Im thinking Jack got the day off because he got dinged.
If you’re not concerned yet, you should be. This group hasn’t shown a single glimpse of cohesiveness through any game thus far. New system, players, coach…. not a valid excuse. Regardless of the players in the lineup, you want to see the team executing and playing with purpose. Establishing good habits. Different coach yet this looks eerily similar to the product Lindy and Travis produced last year. They look slow and lazy. Honestly can’t recall a more concerning preseason than this one.
I think we’ll be 1-1 coming out of Germany, not too worried about the pre season once Markstrom gets consistent starts we’ll be rolling
whats nico's role as captain. is he supposed to bring morale up with the group? im wondering if nico is to soft and not saying anything im not sure what the answer i wonder if we need a new captain that actually cares
I’ll say this much – we are definitely not ready for the regular season yet. I definitely see a rocky October.
It's preseason. I'm not worried and last year was an sign to not put stock into a preseason. Players are getting back into the grove. Defense is completely revamped as well as the bottom 6. Devils had 4 preseason games and a rushed practice schedule in order to get ready for Prague. I definitely wanted more effort, but no one on the team is trying more than 60% at best. Even Nico isn't going all out which should be a sign of them not putting much effort and risking injury

I am freaking out. I think we are cursed. i love jake allen but he shit the bed tonight. Im just really confused because of all these injuries. Like we are not doing this again i can not do this again. this team also seems like they arent trying. We need to swap up lines. Bratt and Meier both need rw, timo cant play with jack, tatar hasnt looked as good. things must change. Mercer, hughes, bratt? tatar, hischier, meier?
I need to comment how it feels going from enjoying the best goalie masks I've seen, to whatever the hell I just watched our mostly nhl roster play their last preseason game.

Sheldon keefe brought the curse. A team that should be great that is destined for failure. it was first round game 7s before, now its injuries and just…. idk. I don't think the world is dying, but its certainly aging

My biggest concern is Allen because while I was not demanding a win tonight it really isn't fun seeing such a performance from our goalie. Not after the narrative of last season.
I hope he shapes up because I don't want the stress of seeing him between the pipes whenever Markstrom needs rest. I know he seemed like a wild card but being an underdog fan I really loved seeing Kahkonen play and find his own personal success even when the rest of the team could not get it done.
You pretty much nailed how I feel, not panicking but definitely nervous. I think the skaters will turn it on come game 1, but this goaltending duo just looks brutal so far, just unplayable. Maybe they'll make a jump and to be fair the team has been terrible in front of them, but thats the gig man, you gotta make some saves. I honestly think if a goalie stands on his head these last two preseason games with the Utica squad, he might steal a job when the team comes back from Prague. I am nervous, though, even without the Hughes brothers this team has way too much talent to be playing like this. I'll reiterate what I said after last game, its time wake up guys.

What's there to talk about? Same horrible defense as always. It's going to be a depressing season again. Don't care if it's preseason or not, these guys supposed to be "hungry" so I guess they enjoy golfing and being out of the playoffs. Allen did so bad that I don't think we should never settle him being the goalie we can count on. Rangers are going to probably kill us on Monday. What concerns me the most is the fact that in order for this team to score, we need be lucky, otherwise look to islanders shots, clean nice goals with precision. We are just shooting into goalies hands at this point so good luck beating a guy like Shisterkin. What this team did, was unacceptable and I am tired of them just keep on saying we need to turn the page and move on..If that is the case we are going to run out of books.

No concerns, they went undefeated and were world beaters last year in the pre-season and spit the bit when the games counted. Jack isn’t hurt, he probably didn’t feel like playing.
If we win one of the games in Prague, I'll be ecstatic. Lindy has the Sabres looking sharp already and he's going to do everything he can to sweep those two games. So far, we look oddly disinterested. Very strange.
Yo Ace, what's going on with the boys!?!? You are totally accurate on your assessment of the team through preseason till this point…definitely a cause for concern. No real effort put forth at all!! Allen looked like trash!! Yeah, they put some good shots on him, but the goaltending tonight eerily reminded me of last year…..kinda scary tbh. Siegs and Nemec looked terrible on D also. Nemec was a -4…not sure about the 5th goal ? A lot of stick checking and soft play from him. Timo scoring on the PP, Mercer looked pretty good tonight and we won a meaningless fight in the 3rd…..wow 🙄 Very disappointed with the team this preseason. You can't just keep losing and have no passion or effort. This can easily get into players psyche and cause problems in the regular season. I dont care it's preseason …it's setting a bad presidence. I saw something online and they said Jack was originally in this morning, but was later removed and PC put in his place. All of this leaves a bad taste in the mouth. PRAUGE OR BUST!!! LET'S GO DEVILS!!!!

I can't wait to comeback on here and say "what about the pre-season?"…Because who cares…Nobody ever goes back to the pre-season whether a team has a good or bad pre-season and points to that as the reason why

They look like complete garbage out there they are giving up the same grade a chances they did last year.. the offense looks bad no rhythm evveeyrhing on the outside alot of one shot and done in the zone.. why the hell did we keep the defensive coach and the goalie coach from last year

Okay, I've had it. Officially this team's nickname is "the secret hospital". What are we doing here? And I am not out here to listen to "it's just the preseason". I mean what is that? Last season we won all matches in preseason and then you saw what happened. What does that mean? Is it the reverse card, where we start as a nightmare, and we win the Stanley Cup in the end? No! No, it is not! Not happening guys. They have to wake up now! We sign in injured players? Call Fitz, call the coach, tell them that the only thing we resemble when we hit the ice is the Titanic.
Well preseason does mean something you can start to see trends out of your nhl players and what I see right now I saw last preseason when they went 7-0. I am definitely worried because we can’t expect them to do a full 180 in a week. I really hate that this team is going overseas, sure great for the fans there but this teams does need all its preseason games to figure out the system. Don’t be shocked if we are 0-2 coming home and the schedule doesn’t get easy from there

I was keeping my cool with previous games, but now I'm a bit worried. I just hope that these lackluster games is due to the team coasting for the global series. I'm not paying too much attention to their lines, but Buffalo has won ever preseason game so far.
I'm expecting nothing short of excellence on October 4th and 5th. I really hope Keefe knows what he's doing.
People love the Hughes bros but they are lazy on defense and are injured 50% of the time. Playoffs we talking about playoffs!
