How to lose an NHL contract

We need to talk about Ryan Johansen who was just dropped by the Philadelphia Flyers in what is honestly a fairly rare move in the modern NHL. We’ll talk all this and more on today’s NHL hockey video!

  1. Philly owes us for the Weber offer sheet…so yes…I am hoping so here in Nashville. Besides…that contract was egregious at the time, especially in hindsight. Love Joey, but he wasn't the same after that Conference Final in 2017.

  2. He was pretty decent at one point. I wonder what other off ice issues are cause such a rapid deterioration of talent.

  3. Went to Colorado to sit on the 2nd line. Ended up on the 4th line only a few months into the season. There were also rumblings that he just wasn't doing his part.

  4. As a Nashville fan. I hate to see Joey in some not so GREAT news. But on the other hand, after this offseason. And the fact that if it happens, we get 4 mil in cap space. That could be HUGE! So I’m excited to see what happens

  5. Cannot keep up with these cap rules. Carey Price is still being paid, maybe Louongo also. Players with his # of games often pack serious chronic injuries. Don't know his personal history but seems he is used up before his contract and now it is a hot potato. Philly is trying to sneak one over IMO. Pay the man.

  6. Sounds like the guy is just refusing to play for torts, and won't accept going to the AHL probably seeing it as beneath him so just claimed he was too injured to do so. He and Torts have history from their time in columbus, including benchings, and healthy scratches that eventually lead to him being traded to nashville.

  7. He absolutely HAAAATES torts from their time together in Columbus I’ve heard. Not surprising considering all the stories I’ve heard about Torts, especially during his CBJ days

  8. Not related, but Briere is a really nice guy. Met him in an elevator in Vancouver in 2007 and we took a selfie. I wasn't able to get the shot right (selfie cameras weren't good back then), so I took it again and he was just really patient letting me get the perfect shot.

  9. I got the chance to spend some time at Bridgestone arena and Joey was an absolutely awesome dude to me and all the staff. He was outgoing and extremely kind. He took the time to talk to me, He approached me and introduced himself, and made me feel so welcome. I appreciated it and him so much so I’ll always be a fan. Hope things pan out for him and he ends up where he’s supposed to.
