The New Jersey Devils have departed from NJ to head to Prague for the Global Series games against the Buffalo Sabres on 10/4 and 10/5.
Defenseman Seamus Casey has made the trip!
As of now, it seems that Casey will be in the NJ Devils Opening Night lineup.
Injuries to Luke Hughes, Brett Pesce and Santeri Hatakka have paved the way for Seamus Casey to make his NHL Debut for the Devils next week.

***In an earlier edition of this video I talked about not burning a year off of Seamus’ Entry Level Contract by only playing him in 9 games or less this season. I was incorrect; because Seamus was 20 when he signed his deal, his contract is NOT “slide eligible”. This will be the first year of his contract regardless if he plays in Utica or New Jersey. This thickens the plot even more, and likely increases Seamus Casey’s chances of staying with the big team. Thank you to @larryblumenfeld1623 for pointing out my late night brainfart.***

If it takes the guys a few games in October to get into the groove so be it, but they need to put up a performance in Prague that's FAR above what we've been seeing this preseason. Casey's been good, so why not. Proud for the youngster.
Devils u-22 so stacked on D with Hughes, nemec, Casey, silayev. Mgmt needs to be very careful about how they are managed and the cap space or they will lose one of them.

Since Casey is already 20yrs old the slide candidate doesn't apply to him , so whether he's in Newark or Utica this will be his 1st season in his entry contract

Congrats to Casey, but the second Pesce is healthy he's going to Utica. He's not going to supplant Hamilton, Pesce, or Nemec this year. Kovacevic is probably ahead of him for the LD spot too after Dillon and Siegenthaler.

Ace, Obviously no one wanted Casey to start the season with the big club. The Devils are just lucky that Casey was available at 46 and that he has seized the moment as well as he has. This definitely has to have Seigenthaler looking over his shoulder. Jonas' start may have a lot to do with whether or not Casey stays up in Newark. Damm this frustrating with this team woth all these injuries on defense it was a huge problem last year.. idk why the never told us pesce was this injured that he cnt start the year.. the last thing the devils need is another rookie d man on the blue line he needs time

I don't see why they would not give him a chance? If you don't risk, you won't drink champagne? Sieg does not seem to like he's a huge value for us and I think Kova offers the physical part that is also important so I would not kick him out.
He will be back to the ahl after a few others are back, he needs to put a little size on and get used to the pro level a little more. I don't think he's ready for a season. I think his size has a lot to do with it. He needs to bulk up a little bit or they're just going to smash the hell out of him after a while
This scheduling of these games are just outrageous. Regular season shouldn’t start until the pre season is fully complete how we have pre season games after we started the regular season just blows my mind lol even the apps (espn TSN in Canada, sportsnet, the score) all have the teams records all messed up because of this 😂 the wait is finally over tho finally got Devils hockey back excited for the season to get started this offseason felt like 2 offseasons with us missing the playoffs.

There's no way Luke is back before Pesce Ace. From what I've heard, is that Pesce is just dealing with feeling comfortable with his ankle in the skate boot. I think he'll be in the lineup after the week off after the club returns from Prague. He's skating with the b club in jersey right now.
I think they'll still eventually send Casey down if the d-core gets completely healthy. He's probably more than likely gonna have some fatigue in his game in time. It happens to the young guys all the time.
