The Avalanche should 10000% bring Howler the mascot back, and have 2 mascots. Bernie is the family-friendly, lovable pooch who does photos with little kids and visits K-2 classrooms etc.
Howler is his foil. He’s mischevious, he works the t-shirt cannon, confetti cannon, antagonizes the other team during warmups, taunts opponents in the penalty box, does photos with bigger kids and adults and visits middle schools and high schools. They could do setup video promo pieces where he finds a planted “fan” of the opposing team in full gear and dumps a beer on their head, drags them out of their seat, tries to make out with them on the Kiss Cam, yoinks their jersey over their head in a fight, etc.
I think it could really work and be a fun piece of the gameday experience. You’ve got the cute one and the evil one.
Utah should name their team after a cool Utah desert animal, not a Yeti.

I’m so pissed that all things are pointed to Utah going with the Yeti. It pretty much erases any possibility of the Avs bringing back the foot (even as just an alternate jersey), let alone Howler.

I have nothing to base this on, but my pet theory has always been the old performer had some IP rights to the character howler and the team chose to kill the character rather than buy out the rights to move on without the original performer.
I have no evidence for this at all.

Is the foot still a registered logo with Avs? If so, I’d assume there’d have to be some kind of compensation from Utah to use the name, no?
